J. LEMON. FLOWER STAND.
No. 584,057. Patented June 8, 1897.
@Mw/Veg UNITED STATES PATENT @Erica .IOIIN LEMON, OF BELLE RIVER, lllIC/HIGAN.
FLOWER-STAN SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 584,057', dated June 8, 189'?.
Application filed October 17, 1896.
To all whom, t nfl/ay concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN LEMON, a citizen of the Unit-ed States, and aresident of Belle River, in the county of St. Clair and State of Michigan, have invented cert-ain new and useful Improvements in FloweiMStands; and I do here-by declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention relates to devices for supporting flower-pots; and it consists in certain peculiarities of construction and combination of parts whereby the same may be compactly folded when not in use, as well as quickly extended into operative condition, all as will be fully set forth hereinafter and subsequently claimed.
In the drawings, Figure l is a partly-sectional view of a device embodying myinvention ready for use. 2 is a sectional view on the line 2 2 of Fig. l.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a flat circular disk forming the top of my device, to the under side of which are secured by hinges a a series of folding legs B B. There may be any suitable number of these legs, according to the size and style of the stand desired, four being indicated in the present drawings, but in practice there may be more or less, if preferred. C is a stationary post or standard the upper end ot' which is let into the top disk A, while the lower end ot' this post is similarly let into a somewhat smaller circular disk D, which rests on the floor or ground.
Eis a slide-block which moves vertically on the post or standard C and which is connected to the folding legs B B by means of links F F, whose ends are secured to screweyes l) l) in said legs and slide-block. These legs B are further connected together and strengthened by a chain or cord G, running around horizontally and secured to each leg.
II is another chain or cord secured, as by a screw-eye c, to the slideblock E and passing up alongside the post C and through aslot d in the disk A" and having at its upper end a ring e for convenience in operation and to prevent it from dropping back through said slot. Each of the legs B is provided with any desired number of shelves I I, secured thereto by hinges f f, below which the said legs are provided with stops or notches g g.
Serial No. 609,197. (No modell) K K are braces, preferably of wire, hinged to t-he under sides of said shelves, near the front thereof, and the lower ends of said braces rest against said stops g. In their simplest form (shown inthe drawings) these stops take the form of notches, and hence the lower ends ot the braces would simply rest within said notches.' Theower-pots are supported upon these shelves. shelves are not in use, the braces K are simply drawn out of or away from their notches orstops, and then the hinged shelves and their braces will simply drop down ila-t against the legs B. Y
When my device is not in use, it may be compactly folded together by simply drawing upon the chain or cord H, which will raise the slide-block E and with it the inner ends of the links F, thereby drawing in the lower ends of the legs B until they rest against the bottom disk D of the post or standard C, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. l. All the shelves I I can be likewise released from their extended position, in the manner already described, and then the whole device will be compactly folded together and occupy very little space and still be in condition for immediate extension and use.
It will be understood that if my liower-stand is to be placed against the side of a houseas, on a porch, for eXample-the legs B B can be so arranged that none of them will project toward the rear, and said legs may be otherwise disposed to adapt my device to it into a corner, dto. but as these matters do not aiect the invention I have not deemed it necessary to illustrate more than one arrangement of said legs.
The bottom disk D of the central post is made of less diameter than that of the upper disk A, so that when the device is folded the legs B and their shelves will not project materially beyond the circnmferentialline of the said upper disk.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In a folding flower-stand, the combination of a vertical central post or standard having a circular disk at each end, a slide-block lVhen any of these l IOO movable on said post, a series of legs each ots' which is hinged to the under side of the upper disk and linked to said slide-block, and a chain or cord secured to said slide-block and passing up through a slot in the said upper disk, substantially as set forth.
2. A folding flower-stand, comprising a vertical central post or standard having a circular disk at each end, the diameter of the lower disk being less than that of the upper disk, a slide-block movable on said post, a series of folding legs, each of Which is hinged to the under side of the upper disk and linked to said slide-block, said legs being provided with notches or stops, a series of shelves hinged to said legs, braces hinged to said JOHN LEMON.
Vitnesses:
O. W. TENNANT, MICHAEL MEYER.
