Description

(No Model?) G. F; BAILEY. V COMBINED DOOR SEGURER'LND'KBY RING CHAIN. I No. 572,046. Patented N0v.'24, 1896.
Mfr/10R? ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE F. BAILEY, OF PEABODY, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO JUSTIN N. DOWS, OF SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS.
COMBINED DOOR-SECURER AND KEY-RING CHAIN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 572,046, dated November 24, 1896.
Application filed June 10 1896. Serial No. 594,966. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE F. BAILEY, of Peabody, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Oombination Door-Securer, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved combination door-securer, key-ring, and key-ring chain which is simple and durable in construction, readily applied to securely lock the door in a closed position, or to support akey-rin g chain from atrousersbutton.
The invention consists ofcertain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the improvement. Fig. 2 isasectional side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a face view of the striker for the door-casing.
The improved device is provided with a plate A, formed at one end with an upturned rib A, adapted to engage the opening B of the striker B, held in the door-casing and adapted to receive the bolt of the door-lock in the usual manner. The rib A is of the same length as the height of the opening B, so that the plate is securely held in place between the striker B and the end of the doorlock casing at the time the door is closed. The plate A is also provided with an elongated opening A adapted to hook onto a trousers-button or other device for conveniently supporting theplate in case the improvement is used as a key-ring chain carrying a key-ring and keys thereon.
On the end of the plate A, opposite the rib A, is held a pivot O, engaged by the end link of the chain D of any approved construction, the said chain carrying at its other end a hook G. In one of the links of the chain D is also held a key-ring H, formed at one end with an enlarged recessed head H, adapted to receive the other end of the ring to render the latter continuous after the keys are inserted on the ring.
Now it will be seen that the device can be readily used for securely looking a door, and for this purpose the plate A is placed in position on the striker B, as previously described, and then the door is closed and thechain D is extended over and around the shank of the door-knob, the hook G being finally hooked onto one of the links of the chain D.
Now it willbe seen that by the arrangement described the door cannot be opened either from the inside or the outside unless the hook G is first unhooked from the link of the chain D.
The device can further be used for carrying keys on the ring H, and the entire device, supported by the plate A, being hung onto a button on the garment of the wearer.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- A door-securer comprising the flat plate A provided with two apertures, one at one end and the other in its central portion and formed at its other end with a rib, a pivot held in said end aperture and engaged by one end of a chain, said chain carrying at its other end a hook, as and for the purpose set forth.
GEORGE F. BAILEY. Witnesses:
