' G. H. BLODGETT. WALL TIE 0R BINDER.
No. 577,002. Patented Feb. 16,1897. 2
avwewboz wizbvmoom 4 mom mg UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE If. BLODGETT, OF SPRINGFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
WALL TIE OR BINDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 577,002, dated February 16, 1897.
Application filed June 3, 1896- Serial No. 594,126. (No model.)
To aZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. BLODGETT, a citizen of the United States of America, residing in Springfield, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Wall Ties or Binders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention relates to ties or binders for walls, especially those constructed of brick and usually employed where an air-space is left between the adjacent tiers.
The object of my invention is to provide a tie or binder which While being inexpensive will be effective and having superior anchor age parts.
I attain the objects of my invention by the construction herein shown.
In the accompanying drawings like letters of reference indicate like parts.
Figures 1 and 2 are side and edge views, respectively, of the preferred form of construction. Fig. 3 illustrates a modification wherein the ends are formed in curved lines.
In detail, Ct indicates the central portion of the device; I), corrugations or curved anchorage parts; 0 and d, the end portions.
The construction of my device will be read ily understood on reference to the drawings, wherein are shown binders or ties formed, preferably, of wire having the central or intermediate portion formed in straight lines,
and at each end thereof the material is corrugated or curved or bent so that when it is embedded in the mortar a series of anchorportions would not be affected and the efficiency of the device would not be materially interfered with or lessened.
I prefer the construction illustrated in Fig. 1, it being approximately rectangular in shape, with the end portions at the sides bent, as shown, for anchorage, while the intermediate portion is straight, and the extreme ends 0 and d are formed in straight lines, and I prefer that the two ends d and d be socured together. This may be accomplished by soldering or dipping at the time they are galvanized. I prefer also that the device be made of iron wire and galvanized, as before stated, and that the corrugations or anchorage bends be formed in curved lines. It will readily be seen, however, that the degree of curvature may be varied and that comparatively sharp bends may be made without departing from my invention.
Having therefore described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A wall bond and tie, consisting of a frame composed of a single wire formed with coincidently-shaped end portions, and side bars parallel at their central portions, as a, and formed with angularly-bent sections 1), arranged on the plane of the frame, intermediate of the central parallel portions and the end portions.
2. A wall bond and tie, consisting of a frame composed of a single wire formedwith parallel end portions the ends ofthe wire being lapped at one end, and side bars parallel at their central portions and formed with angular portions 1) intermediate of the straight central portions and the ends, the said angular portions lying in the plane of the frame.
