Description

No. 575,647. Patented Jan. 19, 1897.

UNITED STATES FREDERICK HooPER, or LONDON, ENGLAND.
BICYCLE GARNI ENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 575,647, dated January 19, 1897. Application filed September 5, 1896. Serial No. 605,016. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern.-
Be it known that I, FREDERICK I-IooPER, a citizen of England, residing at 460 Fulham R0ad,Walham Green, London,England, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Lower Garments forFemale Cyclists or Riders, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to lower garments suitable for female cyclists or riders, so constructed as to give convenience for opening without undressing, as I shall describe, referring to the accompanying drawings. y
Figure l is a back View of a lower garment according to my invention provided with a long skirt. Fig. 2 is a back view of one with short skirt opened at the back. Fig. 3 is a similar view with the falldown-iap open. Fig. 4E is a corresponding section. Fig. 5 is a back view showing the garment opened.
I make a garment A of the nature of drawers 0r knickerbockers, but formed as trousers sometimes are formed with a louttoned opening B, this, however, being at the back and having a falldown-ap C.
To the upper band of A, I attach a skirt D, which is open along the back throughout its whole length.
The skirt may loe long, as shown in Fig. l, or short, as shown in the other iigures; also the legs of the drawers or trousers instead of being short, as those of knickerbockers, (shown in the figures,) may obviously be of greater or less length, as may be desired.
The skirt being open along the back throughout its whole length permits the skirt to hang evenly on each side of the wearer when riding a cycle, and on turning the skirt aside each way the flap can loe readily let down and the back of the garment opened.
Having thus described the nature of this invention and the best means I know of carrying the same into practical effect, I claim-- As a new article of manufacture, a bicycle garment consisting of drawers or trousers divided vertically at the back and detachably fastened together and provided with a posterior falldown-flap detachably fastened to said divided portions, and a skirt attached to the drawers or trousers at the waistband only, said skirt being divided at the rear through its length from top to bottom and having its divided edges wholly unattached, substantially as described. p In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, this 26th day of August, A. D. 1896.
FREDERICK HOOPER. Witnesses:
HAROLD IMRAY,
JNO. P. M. MILLARD.
