To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM MICHELFEL- DEE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Elizabeth, county of Union, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Poles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof, in which lsimilar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

The object of this invention is to provide a curtain-fixture which is simple and durable in construction and neat and ornamental in appearance, and which is not liable to get out of order, and permits of the easy adjustment of the curtain thereon.

In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specication, Figure 1 is a view in elevation with part of the pole or holder in section, and also showing means for holding back the curtains. Fig. 2 is a section on the line x a; of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is aview of the holder, partly in section and showing the interior thereof; and Fig. 4, a view of a modi- I'ied form of curtain-retractor.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 2 designates the main body of the pole or holder, which is tubular in form and provided with end pieces 3, which are held in position by a rod 4, passing through the tubular holder, and screw-threaded at each end to permit of the connection of the end pieces, which are each provided with a correspondingly-screwthreaded aperture.

The holder 2 is provided on its lower side with a longitudinal slot 5, through which depend a series of hooks 6, each of which is provided at one end with an eye or ring, by which it is suspended from the rod 4, and at the other end with a hook 6, to which the curtain is attached. These hooks may be slid along the rod et, or their position adjusted thereon in any desired manner.

The holder 2 is attached to the wall or other support by means of a plate 7, provided with curved projecting arms or springs 8, as shown in Fig. 3, and pivotally attached, preferably to the plates 7 on each side, is my'improved device for pulling or holding back the curtains, as clearly shown in Fig. 1.

The device consists of a slotted arm 9, to which is connected by means of a set-screw 11 a second slotted arm 10, provided with a return curve or hook 12, all of which is clearly 5 5 shown in Figs. 1 and 2. It is evident that the length of this device may be regulated as desired by sliding the arm 10 back or forth upon the arm 9, and securing it at any desired point by the set-screw device 11. y

In Fig. 4 I have shown a modified form of this device for retracting or holding back the curtain, consisting of tvgo arms 9 and 10, hav- Ving spherical ends united by passing a setscrew 11 through the said ends, as clearly 65 shown in said figure. In this form of device the arms are not adjustable one upon the other, but by means of the set-screw they may be set at an angle one to the other, if so desired.

In assembling the parts of the holder proper the hooks 6, or that end thereof provided with the eye or ring, is inserted through the slot 5, and the rod 4 passed through the said eyes or rings, after which the ends 3 are firmly 75 screwed onto said rod, by which means the tubular portion of the holder and the rod are firmly held in the required position, and the whole constitutes ya single, complete, substantial, and ornamental device for the pur- 8o pose desired.

Having fully described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent the following:

In a curtain-supporting device, the colnbi- 8 5 nation of the supporting-plates carrying segmental lugs, a tubular pole within said lugs end pieces secured upon the end of said pole, the rod within said pole engaging said end piece, the dependinghooks extending through 9o said slot, the arm pivoted at one end to said plate, and carrying at the other end, athumbscrew, a hook provided with a longitudinal slot adapted to be engaged by said thumbscrew, whereby the curtain may be drawn 95 back and secured in any desired position, substantially as described.
