WVILLIAM I-I. BLOOM, OF MANSFIELD, OI-IIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE MANSFIELD DISPLAY NOVELTY COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DlSPLAY-RECEPTACLI; FOR BARREL-COVERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 568,126, dated September 22, 1896.
Application filed June 10,1895. Serial No. 552,201. (No model.)
To ctZZ whom zit mru cancer/1,:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM 11. Emma, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mansfield, in the county of Richland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display -Receptacles for Barrel-Covers, of which the followingis a full, clear, and exact specification.
The objects of my invention are, first, to provide a means for displaying pickles, fruits, and other produce; second, to render the said display means air-tight, and, third, to construct the whole device in a simple and inexpensive manner. WVith these objects in view reference is had to the annexed specification and drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a top view of the receptacle for retaining and displaying fruits, the, arranged iron brace a secured to the said part A and adapted to be secured to the said barrel, to which the said display-head is attached. In the main portion A of the said display-head is formed an opening B, (preferably circular in shape,) which is providedwith a ledgeb,
formed concentric with said openings, within which fits and depends, as shown, a basin or tray 0. This receptacle for display may be of any suitable material which the acids of the goods contained will not corrode or affect. The said tray is supported on the flange B of the ooverAby means of a flange 0, formed 011 the said tray. As a means for making the said tray thoroughly air-tight with a glass plate D, which is adapted to fit over said tray, the latter is provided with a groove or depression E, formed in the flange 0, within which groove is placed a circular endlesstube gasket 0 formed of rubber or other yielding substance, and inflated, if desired, to form a cushion between the said flange of Fig. 2 is a sectional view the tray and the plate-glass cover therefor. Over the edge of' the said glass cover D and having (preferably) a smaller diameter than the circular recess B of the cover is placed a clamp ring or rim F, through the outer edge of 5 5 which,- at several-points, to better distribute the strain, loosely pass a number of bolts G, the heads 9 of which are recessed within the lower part of the barrel-head A and are cemented over, as shown at g, to prevent action of acids thereon. The upper ends h of these inverted bolts are threaded, as shown, and a clamp-nut H, preferably having a transverse hole 7L therethrough, screws down upon the said bolts and thereby clamps the rim F, and thus the glass cover D, upon the gasket (J against the flange O, and the latter againstthe flange B of the cover.
It will thus be seen that this device furnishes a means for display of such goods as of which is recessed to form a groove and the inner edge of which is beveled or grooved, in a different plane, a pan or tray adapted to fit in said opening and provided with a lateral flange to rest and shoulder on the grooved edge and provided with a depression to fit said beveled groove, a transparent covering arranged over said pan, a flexible gasket interposed between the said flange and the transparent covering, and a device for clamping all of said parts, substantially as described.
2. In a removable barrel-cover having an opening provided with a wall, the upper edge of which is recessed to form a groove, and the 5 inner edge of which is beveled or grooved in a different plane, a pan adapted to fit in said opening and provided with a lateral flange to rest and shoulder on the grooved edges thereof, an annular depression or groove formed I00 in the flange of said pan, a transparent cov- 011 and means for clamping all of said parts 10 ering arranged over said pan, a flexible, 1101- together,- substantially as described.
10W, endless gasket interposed between the In testimony that I claim the foregoing I said depression or groove in flange portion of have hereunto set my hand this 8th day of said pan, and the transparent covering; and May, 1895.
an inwardly-projecting bead or shoulder to M. H. BLOOM. fit the upper edge of the transparent covcr- Witnesses: ing, and which projects inwardly over the J. M. REED,
transparent covering to form a bearing there- 0. L. M COLELLAN.
