Description

0.1. KNAPP.
Churn Power. I No. 55,120. Patented May 29, I866.
wenivr UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
DAVID J. KNAPP, OF FALLSBURG, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN CHURN-P'OWERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 55,120, dated May 29, 1866.
erence being had to the accompanying draW- ings, forming part of this specification, in which Figure l is a side view of myinvention; Fig.
2, a plan or top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
This invention relates to a new and improved means for operating churns such as are provided with the rising and falling dashers; and it consists of a train of wheels having a spring for a. motor, by which a pitman is driven, the pitman passing through a guide and connected with the dasher-rod, as hereinafter fully shown and described.
A represents a framing, in which a train of wheels, B, multipl yin g-gear,) is arranged similar to an ordinary clock-movement, and driven by a spring, O.
D is a fly, which serves as a regulator, and a is the shaft from which the power is taken,
said shaft having a crank-pulley, E, at one end of it, to which a pitman, F, is attached. This pitman F extends upward and has its upper end bent horizontally outward, as shown atl), passing through a slide, G, which works freely in a slot, 0, in an upright post, H.
1 is the dashcr-rod of the churn J, through which rod the upper horizontal part, b, of the pitman passes loosely.
The slide G insures a vertical movement of the dasher-rod, obviating much friction, the part b of the pitman turning freely in the slide G and dasher-rod I.
I do not claim, broadly, the operating of a dasher-rod through the medium of a spring and gearing; but
I do claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The slide Gr, fitted in suitable guides or a slot in a standard or support, H, with the pitman F passing through it, substantially as shown and described, in combination with the gearing and spring, all arranged to operate in the manner substantially as and for the purpose specified.
