UNITED STATESv ATENT FFICE.
MINERVA DUNCAN, OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA.
TOILET-POWDER BAG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 537,107, dated April 9,1 895.
Application filed September 20, 1894. Serial No. 523,634. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern,.-
`Be it known* that I, MINERVA DUNCAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of South Bend, in the county of St. Joseph and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet-Powder Sachets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements inV sachets or bags more especially adapted for those accustomed to carry a supply of face powder with them, when on a visit, pleasure tour, the., the toilet powder bag or sachet being so arranged that it serves both as the receptacle for the powder and a pad whereby the powder is applied to the face, and can be made of a size to be conveniently carried in the pocket of a dress or wrap, and not monopolize any more space than an ordinary sized purse.
Referring to the drawings, which form a part of this specification, Figure 1, is a perspective view of my bag or sachet, showing thel applying pad open for use, and which when folded over the mouth of the bag closes the same. Fig. 2, is a front view showing the applying pad closed over the mouth of the made, to prevent the upper end from foldingv or collapsing, and to hold the bag to the desired shape.
B is a pad preferably made of chamois skin, and sewed to the inner upper end of the rear side a2 of the bag; or may be formed as an extension of the rear side of the bag when the entire bag is made of chamois skin. The side J of the pad B is used to lapply the powder to the face; the surface of the same being easily covered with powder by turning the bag up.
side down, which allows the powder in the bag to slowly sift through a small opening c left between the lower end of the pad B and the front upper end of the bag when the pad is open and ready for use.
When not in use the pad is folded over the front upper edge a3 of the bag to the position shown in Figs. 2 and 3, thus closing the opening or mouth c thereof and preventing any leakage from the bag.
In order to prevent any displacement of the pad when the same is folded over the to the edges of its open end or mouth, and a pad, secured at one end inside of the open end of the bag, and an elastic band applied to one edge of the open end of the bag to hold the pad in a closed position; there being a slot or opening left between the rigid stays or strips for the escape of the powder when the pad is raised, substantially as shown.
In testimony thatI claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MINERVA DUNCAN.
