SPECIFICATON forming part of Letters Patent No. 514,327, dated February 6, 1894.

Be it known that I, FLORENCE I. LEONARD, of Arlington, in the county of Calhoun and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Traveling- Cases, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improved traveling case which will be especially useful to ladies as Well as to gentlemen for short trips and the invention seeks to provide a simple inexpensive case which will be convenient to carry, has apartments to properly contain several dresses, lingerie, hats and the like suiicient for a trip of a few days and the invention consists in the novel constructions and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings-Figure l is a perspective view and Fig. 2 a front Vview of the case the cover or top section being raised, and Fig. 3 is an. end view of the case the several covers being raised.
The main compartment A is a box ot'sufiicientlength, width and depth to hold several dresses, ordinarily two feet long, sixteen inches wide and nine inches high, and is suilicient to hold two dresses. This box may be termed the dress box and like the other parts of the casemay be made of leather suitably braced or may be formed of other materials suitable for the purpose. To the box A is hinged at one edge b the cover or top section B., having at its other or swinging edge suitable fastening means by which it may be held closed.
Upon the cover B I mount atboth ends hat boxes C O separated at their adjacent edges aording an intermediate space in which is arranged the handle D fixed to the lid B and adjacent to the handle D is provided a card case E and pencil clasps F.
Upon the cover B in rear of the hat boxes C is provided a long narrow box G extending the length of the cover and having a cover g upon the outer side of which are secu red the umbrella or cane straps H.
The lids C C of the hatboxes are provided on their vunder sides one with a manicure case with spacings for the fittings of such cover, and the other with a mirror while upon the inner side of the lid B is provided a pocket for stationery. TheA long narrow box G is adapted for lingerie, (be.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A traveling case comprisingabox or main compartment, the cover therefor and the hat boxes mounted upon the opposite ends of said cover and having lids substantially as set forth.
2. An improved traveling case having the main compartment or box and the lid thereof provided with hat boxes upon its ends and with the long lingerie box extended alongside the hat boxes substantially as set forth.
3. An improved traveling case consisting of the main box the lid or cover therefor provided on its upper side centrally between its ends with the handle and the hat boxes tixed upon the ends of said cover on opposite sides of the handle and having lids substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
4. `The improved traveling case herein described consisting ot the main box or compartment the lid thereof having upon its opposite ends hat boxes separated at their adjacent edges aiording space for the handle, the handle secured tothe lid between the hat boxes and the lingerie box secured upon said lid at one edge thereof and extended alongside the hat boxes the said hat and lingerie boxes being provided with lids substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
5. In a traveling case the combination with the main box or compartment and its lid having the handle between its ends and having the hat boxes mounted on the lid and provided on their upper sides with independent lids and also havingthelingerie box provided with an independent lid and extended alongside the hat boxes all substantially as described whereby access maybe had to the interior of the main box Withoutopening either of the hat or the lingerie boxes or to anyone of the latter boxes without opening the main box all substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
