Description

(No Model.)
D. M. FLOERGKEY. GARMENT FASTENER.
No. 502,432. Patented Aug. 1, 1893.
WITNESSES: INVENT @6404 M UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DOROTHEA M. FLOERQKEY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
GARM ENT-FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 502,432, dated August 1, 1893.
Application filed March 16, 1893. Serial No. 466,224- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DOROTHEA M. FLoERoKEY, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Garment- Fasteners, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of a garment fastener constructed of novel parts, as will be herein-' after set forth.
Figure 1 represents a plan of a blank from which a portion of a garment fastener embodying my invention is formed. Fig. 2 represents a side elevation of said portion. Fig. 3 represents a transverse section of one member of the fastener. Fig. 4 represents a transverse section of both members, on line w, as, Fig. 5. Fig. 5 represents a plan view of the fastener.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings: A and B desigmate the two members of a garment fastener embodying my invention. The stud member A is formed of the skeleton head 0, and a core D within the same. The base of the head 0 has a peripheral flange E in which are openings, whereby the member A may be sewed or otherwise secured in position. The member B is of theforin of a socket with a conical opening or bore to receive the member A, said member B having also openings in its rim, whereby it may be sewed or otherwise secured in position.
It will be seen that when the member A is inserted in the member B, the skeleton'head C is primarily contracted as it enters said member 13, and when it reaches home, it eX- pands and forms somewhatof a dove-tailed joint with the member B, whereby the parts are interlocked, as will be seen in Fig. 4, the
stud and socket portions both being entirely between the parts of the garment to which they are attached.
When superior force is applied to either member, in order to separate the same, the head O contracts as it is drawn through the openings of the member B, whereby the disconnect-ion of the members is accomplished.
The core D which iswithin the head 0, serves to sustain the main portion of the head 0 from within, and also limits the contraction of the same, thus preventing breaking in of said head, and consequently adding to the durability of the same. The head 0 is primarily formed of a disk or blank, as shown in Fig. 1, the same being subjected to a stamping or striking-up operation, whereby it is converted into the shape as shown in Fig. 2. It will also be seen that the bases of the two members are fiat or approximately fiat, whereby the parts of the garment to which they are sewed may be brought close together.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A garment fastener composed of the skele' ton head 0 of inverted conical form, and the sustaining core D within the same, and the flat peripheral perforated base flange E on said head, and the member B with a socket therein, and a flat peripheral perforated base rim, said parts being combined substantially as described.
