UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDGAR D. PENTZ, OF DANVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
FASTENING DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 497,102, dated May 9, 1893.
Application filed November 25, 1892. Serial No. 452,998. tNomodel.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDGAR D. PENTZ, of Danville, in the county of Moutour, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvementsin Devices for Fastoning Together the Tops of the Flaps or Flies of Pautaloons, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to devices for fastening together the tops of the flaps or flies of pantaloous'.
I have found by experience that a button is whollyinsufficient to fasten the tops of the flaps of trousers together, owing to the strain caused by the action of the body and to the end of producing an easy and convenient means for securing and detaching the flaps, my invention consists in a set of clasps each to be secured to the flap and adapted to engage with each other in such a way that they will not be released from each other by any movement of the body.
My invention consists in the several novel features of construction and operation hereinafter described and which are specifically set forth in the claim hereunto annexed. It is constructed as follows, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1, is a view of the upper part of a pair of trousers, showing the flaps or files provided with my improved fasteners. Fig. 2 is a view of the clasp complete, detached. Fig. 3, is an edge viewthereof. Fig. 4, is a view of the inner face of the flap showing means for securing it.
A, is the body of the clasp having an opening -1- in its inner end, through which a strip of cloth -2 passes and which is then sewed to the garment, as shown. Near its outer end are openings --3- through which the clasp is secured against vertical and lateral movement by stitching, and the outer end is bent over J-shaped forming a T-head 4, one of said clasps having its central parts, having openings -1- in ,the opposite ends, openings --3- near the adjacent ends and having T-heads bent over in reverse directions, the bent portion of one being cut away substantially centrally, and the other cut away on each side of the center leaving a projecting portion of the body of the other to lie therein, as specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 11th day of November, 1892.
ED GAR D. PENTZ.
In presence of- WILLIAM H. BOURN, WILLIAM L. SIDLEB.
