Description

G. RMAN.
LOOK.
No. 508,969. Patented Nov. 21, 1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES NORMAN, OF FRANKFORT, MICHIGAN.
ROWLOCK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 508,969, dated November 21, 1893. Application tiled November 26, 1892. Serial No. 453,290. (Model) T aIZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES NORMAN, a
' citizen of theUnited States, residing at Fran kfort, in the county of Benzie and State of 7 Michigan, have invented a new and Improved oar lock, and Fig. 2 a front elevation of the same.
Fig. 1, shows the row lock complete on section of oar. It consists of two bands, B, a ring a, and ashank twith an-open head. Two
. bands are used to secure two difierentlengths of car handles, by changing the ring a from one .band B to the other. The bands Bare in halves, and close around the oar by a beveled lap through which the screws pass, securing them to the oar. A groove 7, is out. into each band B and, around its outer circumference inwhich the ring a fits and runs.
Fig. 2 shows front view of ring a, closed on band B, dotted line showing ring a as when open. The ring a is in halves, hinged at the top by a bolt 1, to which a latch 2 is riveted, dotted lines showing latch 2 as when raised.
in a bolt 3, which passes through the head of the shank 4 far enough to allow the other half.
to close upon it, where it is held in position by a pin 5, which passes through both ring a and bolt 3.
The bolt 3 rotating in the shank 4, gives the oar the required vertical motion.
. Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An oar lock having a pintle andthole ring hinged thereon by suitable lugs, said ring being divided into two hinged sections, the lug on one of ,Which is perforated for the reception of a key to lock the same in engagement with the hinge bolt of the pintle.
v r 2. A pintle havinga thole ring thereon, said ring being composed of diametrically divided hinged sections, having lugs on their free ends for engaging with the pintle, and a latch on one of the sections, in combination with a grooved collar attached to the oar and having a recess therein for receiving the latch and locking the ring to the oar.
