UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
HENRY I. TALLEY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR, BY DIRECT AND MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO GEORGE G. THOMSON, OF SAVE PLACE.
REFERENCE-FILE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 468,312, dated February 2,1892.
Application filed April 21, 1891. Serial No. 389,854- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY I. TALLEY, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Reference File or Container, of
which the following is a specification, due reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part hereof.
Myinvention relates to the class of files for containing papers and the like, and has for its object the provision of a reference file or container having many compartments for holding papers, 830., formed with either fixed or movable partitions radiating from a common center and preferably so marked as to designate the days of the month, months of the year, and other desired designations as will provide an ever-ready and convenient reference or reminder container of matters of business, &c., requiring attention at given time or times.
In the drawings, Figure l is a top plan view, and Fig. 2 a vertical sectional view, of a file embodying my invention.
z 5 Referring now to the drawings, in which the parts are indicated by numerals, similar numerals denoting like parts, 1 is a box, case, or receptacle, of wood, metal, papier-mach, or other suitable material. This receptacle I preferably construct circular in form, of
a desired depth, circumference, and diameter, provided with a bottom 1 and with or without a lid or cover and fastening devices. The interior vertical wall of this receptacle 3 5 has a series of vertical recesses or grooves 2, which are designed to respectively receive one end of a partition 3, adapted to fit within the box in the manner-hereinafter described, and of which there area series. These partitions 0 are of length less than one'half the diameter of the receptacle, and at their other extremity abut against an upright or post 4., located at or about the center of the receptacle, which serves to keep the partitions in place and which may, if desired, be of height sufficient 5 to form a handle for carrying about the device. These partitions are preferably provided, as to some of them, with numbers designating the calendar dates of a month, others with the names of the calendar months, and others with various desired identifyingdata, until each of the compartments formed by the placing of the partitions has its particular designation and use.
It will be understood that such designating numbers, names, titles, &c., as may be employed to identify the various compartments may not alone be marked or otherwise placed on the respective partitions, but may be on the rim of the receptacle or such other place on the device as may be most convenient for use,or as desired.
I wish it further understood that I do not desire to limit myself to the exact construction and arrangement of parts shown in my 6 5 drawings, but may vary the same in any manner t0 bettercarryoutthe principle of my invention without departing from the true scope thereof.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- A reference file or container of the character herein described, consisting of a suitable receptacle provided on its inner face with a series of vertical grooves or recesses,a post or the like at or about the center thereof, a series of removable partitions extending be tween said recesses and post, forming compartments, and means for identifying each compartment, as and for the purposes set forth.
I11 testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name this 18th day of October, A.
HENRY I. TALLE Y.
