G. W. SANOR. COMBINED FOLDING BED AND DRESSING GASE- No. 456,965. Patented-Aug. 4, 1891.
Vii T552 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE IV. SANOR, O1 SPRINGFIELD, MISSOURI.
COMBINED FOLDING BED AND DRESSlNG-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 456,965, dated August 4, 1891. Application filed November 6, 1890- Serial No. 370,553. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. SANOR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Greene and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Folding Beds and Dressing-Cases; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in combined folding beds and dressing-cases, the object of which is to provide a bed that may be folded or will slide ,up into a dressing case or frame Without removing the clothing or bedding from the bed and one that can be quickly and easily drawn down when desired for use, and when closed or folded forms a dressing-case with mirror and drawers and occupies but little room. These objects I accomplish by means of the device shown in the accompanying drawings and forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a View in elevation of the e11- iire device when folded, forming-a dresser. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the device open, forming a bed. Fig. 3 is a detail View showing one of the side rails with its track.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
A is the upright part of the case, having a mirror B and tracks 0. Said tracks are curved at the lower end and provided with suitable catches C to receive and hold the end of the bed when it comes down from the case in drawing it out.
D D are side rails of the bed. Said rails have slots D in the end secured to the movable part G of the dresser, in which is placed a roller K. Said slot is made diagonally across the side rails, and a piece D secured to the upper side of the rail for the purpose of lengthening the said slots. At the lower outer end the slot turns to a horizontal for the purpose of holding the bed up in position when drawn out. i
D are rollers secured to the end of the bed which slides upon the track 0 in the case A.
E is a head-board having a hinge E for folding down upon the pillows and holding the bed in position while being folded.
G is the movable part of the case, and is provided with rollers K for supporting one end of the bed. It also has drawers H, as an ordinary dresser, andcatches I, preferably automatic, or spring-catches for holding the bed in position when folded, said catch. attaching to the upright case A.
The device is operated thus: By raising the catch I the part G of the case is moved forward. This permits the bed to be drawn down, and when it is fully drawn out the roller K slips into-the horizontal part of the slot D? and holds the bed up in position. In folding the bed, as the part G moves back the roller K slips up to the opposite end of the slot D thus permitting the end of the bed to drop down, so that when the bed starts to slide up in the case A it is on an incline and partly balanced by the roller K of the movable part G, slipping forward in the inclined slot D which makes the bed light and easy to slide up.
Vhat I desire to claim as new, and secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In combination with a dressing case made in two parts A and G, one part A having a track 0, the other a support K, and a bed having side rails D, provided with rollers D and slots D substantially as shown and described.
2. In a combined folding bed and dressingcase, side rails I), having rollers D at one end and slots made diagonally across the rail, combined with the two parts A and G of a dressing-case, one part of said case having a track 0, curved at the lower end and forming a catch 0 the other part having a roller K for working in the diagonal slot, all substantially as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
. In testimony whereof I aifiX my signaturein presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE WV. SANOR.
