Be it known that I, OLIVER C. HENRY, a`

citizen of the United States, residing at Pocatello, in the county of Bannock and State of Ida-ho, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cabinet Beds, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to certain improvements in cabinet beds and it is an object of the invention to provide a novel and imV proved device of this general character especially designed and adapted for usein apartments or other locations wherein it is of particular advantage to save space.

It is also an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved device of this general character comprising a cabinet and a bed structure wherein the bed structure is so constructed as to be readily compacted and housed within the cabinet when not in use, said cabinetbeing also constructed to permit the top thereofto be employed in the fashion of a dresser or kindred article of bedroomfurniture. v

The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and ar-y rangement of the several parts of my improved cabinet bed whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be' definitely claimed.

In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now lproceed to describe the same with reference to the ac companying drawings, wherein Flgure 1 is a view in perspective of a cabinet bed constructed in'accordance with an embodiment of my invention, the bed structure proper being extended foruse;

The bottom and front lface of the cabinet C are open and said open face is adapted to be closed in a-conventional.manner by the swinging doors 2. The cabinet C as herein disclosed is also provided withthe casters 3 whereby the device may be readily shifted from one location to another as` may be preferred although I dov not wish to be understood as limiting myself inthis respect because any desired cabinet may be permanently built within a room.

With thefbed Structure housed within the cabinet C the caster 43 carried by the central portionv of the brace or stay member 21 has direct `contact with the floor or other surface' upon which the cabinet C is positioned whereby the weight of the bed structure proper is carried directly upon said floor or kindred supporting surface.

In order to` maintain the toot portion ot the bed in its folded position with respect t-o the head portion thereof I secure to the central portion ot the toot rail 2 3 flexible member 44 the opposite or free end of which being provided With the hook member adapted to be engaged with the head rail 16.

By having the rods 11 telescopically engaged with the side sections 14, the bed structure proper when desired may be moved outwardly a distance to position said structure entirely exterior of the cabinet C When the bed is extended and assembled for use.

The bed bottom spring fabric 22 may be of any ordinary or preferred construction and is attached to the head rail 16 and the foot rail 23 in any manner preerred.

From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a bed cabinet construction in accordance with my invention is particularly Well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my` invention is susceptible of some change and modilication Without de-parting from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not Wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed.

I claim 1. A device of the class described comprising a cabinet having a face open, vertically disposed guidevvays carried by the opposite face of the cabinet, arms slidably engaged within said guideways, rods pivotally engaged with said arms, a 'I'oldable bed structure comprising side rails With which the rods are telescopically engaged, said bed structure when compacted being housed Within the cabinet, and means for holding the rods and side rails against relative movement.

2. A device of the class described comprising a cabinet having a face open, verti` cally disposed guideivays carried by the opposite face of the cabinet, arms slidably engaged Within said guidevvays, rods pivotally engaged with said arms, a foldable bed structure comprising side rails with which the rods are telescopically engaged, said bed structure when compacted being housed Within the cabinet, and means for holding the rods and side rails against relative movement, the lower ends of the guideways providing supports of the head of the bed When the bed structure is extended for use.
