winding watches andsetting the' hands; end i do hereby declare the following to be an smet description thereof, reference being had tr' the accompanying drawings, and tothe a The nnte-re of my .invention is, placing a. iinrreiwheei on the center of the innin Watchpiete, enti `tnrning the bsrrei-Wheel towind np the watch by menus of n hinged stationnn'gfwinder. The barrel-Wheel being secured to the nisin plete by n iinngcd rim, a. center wheel is inenten inareeess of the plate, and another center wh eel operated by the thumb and finger sets the hande of the'watch. The object of my invention is to make a, watch run from one to eight days. i
`To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation. 'Figure i represents the barrel-wheel, hinged der side of barrell wheel containing the spring; Fig. 3,v top side of main plate; Fig. 4, the under side of main plate; Fig. 5, the flanged riin with spring and dog; Fig. 6, an end View ot the' devices combined.
A. represents the center barrel-wheel, upon which is a hinged plete, B, for winding the- Wntch`. The center wheel, U, is for the purpose of turning and setting the hands by through the center ofthe bnrrebwheel A, and is connected with and moves the ordinary hand-wheels of the Works of the Watch. E is the hanged rim thnt is fastened by screws F to the main plate Cr for the pur- ]ose or" securing the barrel-wheel A to the mein plate of the watch. It has also a dog, ll, attach-ed, that falls into the teeth ofv the burrel-wheel A, to hold the wheel when wound up. The spring I, being located on the inside ot' the barrel-Wheel A, nots upon the center wheel, J, located in a recess of the mein plat-e G, which gives motion to the Worksv of Athe Watch.
K is the common cock-plate that holds the center Wheel, J.
to wind the watch. The spring M on the rim E presses upon and acts upon the dog l1, so sto hohl they dog in the teeth of the Wheel- A to prevent the. wheel from running beck.J -1
The object and advantages-are: First, this invention keeps the dust and'dirt from enterf ing the wor-ks of n watch thutusua-lly enter4 the common key hole, whichv I dispense with; secondly, I also wind the niainspring :inthe center, instead of between the center and the -riln ot' the Watch, and dispenseY `with the use of a1A watch-key; thirdly, by my' in/vention :t
vwatch is niadeto run for eightduys, as well as one';rlny,'onjnccount ofthe length of the spring'in the ba-rreLwhe'el A, which spring may be sixl feet long, instad oi' 'fteen or sixteen inches, as in the ordinary'watches-tor` the large barrelsvheel A allows nie to insert a much larger and heavier spring than .can be used in the ordinary watches, -giving more power to drive and extendthe movements and time ot a watch; fourthly, by
reason of dispensing'wth a. watch-key, the Y post of the watch is shorter, and the watch is made Hatter and neeter.
What I claim es rn-y invent-ion, a.nd desire to secure by Lettersv vPatent, is-
1. Placing the barrel-wheel A on the center of the main watch-plate G' and turning the burrel-whee1 to wind up, the watch by.
means of the hingedsiationnry Winder B, as herein described.
2. The hanged rim E, for securing the barrel-Wheel A to the main plate G, as described.
3. Attaching the muinspring I to the center wheel,J,'and the outer end atta-cheri to the rin of the barrel-wheel A.
4. The arrangement and combination of 'the barrel-wheel A, hinged Winder Bfenged rim E, and center wheels, J and C, for winding a. watch and setting the hands at the center of a Watch.v Y
