IMPROV'EMENT m Tireoxes. Y

TO'ALL WHOM ITMAY ooncEmv:
Be it known that I, A. J. FE-LhOWS, of Mer'iden; in the county of New Havemfand State of Connecticut,
have invented a new and useful Improvement inTape-Boxesj and I do herebydeela re that the following is a full, clear, and exact description't hereof, which will enable others skilled-in the art to make and usethe some, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,'forming part of this'speoification. i
The present invention relates to the catch, by'meons of which the drum of the box, having the tape wound around it, is held or released, as may-he desired. l
In the accompanying plate of drawings my improvement in tape-boxes is illustrated I Figure 1 being an inside face View of a box having it applied thereto, and
Figure 2 a transverse section, taken in the plaue of the line a3, fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. i I A, ineth'e drawiugs, represents the case or box, having'arranged within it thedrnm 13 provided with a coiled spring, as inordinary tape-boxes, C be-ing the tape wound around it, extending 'oiit-of the boxfthrough the slit or opening, D, in the side or edge E. This drum is provided with teeth F, as in ordinary tape-boxes, and with such teeth the spring-catch G engages, that forums the subject of the present improvement.
This spring-catch is made of the general shape shown, and by its end G engages with the teeth to thetapedrum or wheel, while by its other it is fixed over and upon the square portion to the drum-centre spindle H. I, the lever for releasing the catchfrom the drum-teeth, for which it is only necessary to press it forwa'rd.
As my improved catch is not attached to the back of the case or box, it is plainly obvious that rubber, ivory, and other material may he used, which, in the ordinary mode of applying the catch, could not be used. I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent--. f The catch G, in combination with the toothed drum B, spindle H, lever I, coiled-spring caseA, and tape G, substantially as described for the purpose set forth.
A; J. FELLOWS.
