NECKTlE-FASTENER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 414,406, dated November 5, 1889.

Application filed July 23, 1889 To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ()RRIN A. HANFORD, of Bloomington, in the county of McLean, and in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie- Fasteners; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in necktie-fasteners, the object of the same being to provide a device of this character by means of which the tie may be conveniently adjusted and removed from the collar-button.

A further object is to provide a device of the above character which shall be simple and economical in construction and durable and efficient in use; and with these ends in view my invention consists in the certain features of construction and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a view showing the loop A enlarged to receive the button, and Fig. 3 is a vertical section.

The necktie'fastener is made of a single piece of wire, and is constructed as follows: A spring a is formed by coiling the wires as shown, after which the wires are curved outwardly and inwardly, as shown at 1), thereby forming the loop A, and thence across each serial No. 318,412. (No model.)

The rear of the necktie is secured between the spring a and the ends g, the latter being bent laterally to the arms hand pierce the scarf, thereby securing the same.

The necktie is fastened to the collar-button by means of the loop A, which is enlarged by pressing the corners (Z together. pressure is removed, the spring CL will close the loop A, and the necktie will be securely fastened to the button.

Having fully described my invention,what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A necktie-fastener consisting of the spring a, the loop A, the corners d, for operating the spring and enlarging the loop, the arms e, and the ends g, adapted to pierce the necktie, said arms passing through the loop formed by the spring and bent to retain the necktie in position, substantially as shown and described.
