Description

UNITED STATES PATENT EEICE.
CHARLES F. MACY AND SETH MARTIN, OF LITTLE YORK, CALIFORNIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HOSE-NOZZLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 40,@417,'datedDccember 8, 1863.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, CHARLES F. MACY and SETE MARTIN, both of Little Yorg, in the county of Nevada and State ot' CaliforniaI7 have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hose-Pipes; and We do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part-of this speciication, in Which- Figure l is a longitudinal central section of our invention 5 Fig. 2, a rear end view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two gures.
The ordina-ry hose-pipe, especially those which are used for mining purposes, scatter or spread the stream which is ejected from them, partly in consequence of the taper forni of the pipe, and partly in consequence of the hose itself, which is almost invariably more or less twisted or crooked near the pipe. This scattering or spreading ofthe stream detracts greatly from its efficiency, and to obviate this difficulty is the object of this invention, which consists in providing the interior of the pipe with a number of radial plates, arranged substantially as hereinafter set forth.
To enable those skilled in the art to fully understand and construct our invention, we will proceed to describe it.
A represents a hose-pipe, which maybe constructed in the usual way-to wit, of conical or taper form externally and having a taper bore or interior, a, as shown clearly in Fig. l.
Within the bore or interior a of the pipe A there are inserted three (more or less) plates, b b b. These plates are perfectly straight or are planes, and they are secured to the inner side of the pipe and project radially toward its center, as shown clearly in Fig. 2. These plates extend the Whole length of the pipe, and they are of an unequal width, to compensate for the taper form of the bore and admit of the opening or space between the inner edges of the plate being of equal width throughout', as shown clearly in Fig. l. The inner ends of the plates b are beveled, as shown at c in Fig. 1, so that they will not offer much resistance to the water as the latter enters the pipe. From this description, it will be seen that the Water in passing through the pipe A is prevented from having any spiral motion on account ot' the plates b, and the stream will consequently be ejected in a compact manner and rendered far more eiijcient than it' it were allowed to spread and scatter, as hitherto.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent. is-
A hose-pi pe provided with internal radial plates, substantially as and for the purpose herein setl forth.
CHARLES F. MACY. SETH MARTIN.
