COMFOUND FOR PREVENTING BOILER INGRUSTATION;
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 397,523, dated February 12, I885. Application filed June 30, 1888. Serial No. 278,701. (No specimens.)

Be it known that I, ALMARON J. SCOFIELD, of Bcloit, in the county of Rock and State of \Visconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Compounds for Clarifying at-er; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exactdescription oi the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the artto which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in compositions of matter for clarifying water, and more particularly for preventing and removing incrustation from boilers, and has for its object to provide a compound for removing and preventing incrustation in boilers and clarifying water generally.
XVith this object in view my invention con sists in certain novel combinations of ingredients, as hereinafter set forth.
The compound which I employ for theprevent-ion and removal of incrustation is composed of barley-sprouts, (from malt,) one part; flaxseed or fiaxseedmeal or fiaxseed compounds, one part; glue, one part, pulverized and mixed as a powder, and a sufficient amount of water to dissolve the glue if the compound should be desired in blocks or forms. These ingredients are thoroughly mixed together, and the use of the resulting compound produces very satisfactory results for the clarification of water and thereinoval and prevention of incrustation from bollers;
Very good results may be obtained from a mixture of flaxseed and glue, barley-sprouts 3 5 and glue, flaxseed and barley-sprouts, or flaxseed mixed wit-h water.
Itis evident that the proportions of ingredients might be varied without departing from the spirit of my invention or limiting its 0 scope, and hence I do not wish to limitgnyself to the precise proportions herein stated, but prefer to use one-third of each or one-half of each when either of the three is not used.
