Abstract

The trousers comprise a waistband defining a belt tunnel and a belt extending through said belt tunnel in the longitudinal direction thereof. The belt comprises an intermediate belt portion consisting of a rubber band and contained in said belt tunnel, a first belt end portion connected to one end of said rubber band and extending out of said belt tunnel at one end thereof, a second belt portion connected to the other end of said rubber band and extending out of said belt tunnel at the other end thereof, and a belt buckle connected to said second belt end portion and disposed outside said belt tunnel and adapted to be fixed to said first belt end portion at a selected portion of the length of said first belt end portion.

The belt comprises an intermediate belt portion consisting of a rubber band and contained in said belt tunnel, a first belt end portion connected to one end of said rubber band and extending out of said belt tunnel at one end thereof, a second belt portion connected to the other end of said rubber band and extending out of said belt tunnel at the other end thereof, and a belt buckle connected to said second belt end portion and disposed outside said belt tunnel and adapted to be fixed to said first belt end portion at a selected portion of the length of said first belt end portion.

TROUSERS This invention relates to an elastic waistband, particularly for mens trousers and for womens trousers having a forward fly, which trousers consist of jersey fabric and are provided with a tunnel waistband.

Trousers of stretchable fabric, such as jersey fabric, afford a high convenience, particularly if the waistband is stretchable too. To provide a stretchable waistband it is known to provide an elastic rubber band on the inside of the waistband or to incorporate a simple rubber band in the waistband. The known waistbands have the disadvantage, however, that they cannot be adjusted to readjusted in length. Such readjustment will be particularly required when the rubber has worn out and has lost part of its resiliency.

It is an object of the invention to provide a simple waistband which can be adjusted in length in a simple manner.

In a waistband of the kind described first hereinbefore, this object is accomplished according to the invention in that the belt tunnel contains a concealed rubber band, and a belt end portion provided with holes and a belt end portion provided with a belt buckle are sewn to respective ends of said rubber band and extend out of the belt tunnel. Because the concealed invisible portion of the belt consists of an elastic rubber band and is provided with conventional belt end portions, one of which is provided with a buckle having a tongue, whereas the other belt end portion is tapered and provided with holes, the belt may be fastened in the conventional manner and by the selection of the proper or desired hole in the tapered belt end portion can be adjusted to the desired girth. The belt is threaded into the belt tunnel when all sewing work on the trousers has been completed so that the belt is freely movable. When the trousers are to be drycleaned or to be washed by the wearer, the belt can be pulled out of the belt tunnel at any time.

The visible belt end portions consist suitably of leather or artificial leather to provide for an attractive appearance of the trousers. Because leather and artificial leather have the required stiffness, the belt can easily be threaded into the waistband tunnel, contrary to a belt made only of rubber.

To prevent a retention of the tapered belt end portion in the cross stitch seam (seat seam) in the fold on the inside of the waistband as the belt is threaded into the tunnel, the fold is suitably additionally fixed by quilting on the inside of the waistband.

To avoid an adverse influence on the elasticity of the waistband by stiched seams, the waistband seam is suitably sewn with a chain-stitching machine. It will be particularly desirable if the pocket bags which open in the waistband are also cut from stretchable fabric, preferably from the material which is used also as a top cloth, instead of being made from inelastic lining fabric, as is conventional.

An illustrative embodiment of the invention will now be explained more fully with reference to the drawing, in which FIG. 1 shows, partly cut away, the waistband portion of mens trousers with the belt partly threaded, and

The inlet end 3 and the outlet end 4 of this belt tunnel 2 extend approximately on imaginary lines which form extensions of front creases of the trousers. The waistband seams 8 have been stiched with a chain-stitching machine so that the elasticity of the waistband will not be adversely affected by inextensible seams. The belt shown more fully in FIG. 2 is threaded into the belt tunnel and has an intermediate portion 9 consisting of a rubber band. A belt end portion 10 consisting of leather or artificial leather and provided with a buckle having a tongue is sewn to one end of this rubber belt 9. A tapered belt end portion 1 1 having a plurality of holes is sewn to the other end of said rubber band 9. The girth of the belt will depend on the selected hole in the belt. When a larger girth is required because the wearer of the trousers is seated or drives a car or has finished a meal, the selected hole in the belt need not be changed.

To ensure that the elasticity of the waistband will not be adversely affected by the pockets sewn thereto, the pocket bags of the hip pocket 5 and of the trouser pockets 6, which bags open into the waistband, are also made of stretchable fabric.

The rubber insert in the belt, the stretchable top cloth, the extensible pockets and the elastic waistband seam enable a stretching of the girth of the waistband by at least 10 percent of the normal girth.

What is claimed is:

1. The combination of trousers and a belt in which said trousers comprise a waistband consisting of a stretchable fabric having a waistband seam consisting of a chain stitch seam defining a belt tunnel, pocket bags of stretchable fabric, and in which said belt extends through said belt tunnel in the longitudinal direction thereof and comprises an intermediate belt portion consisting of a rubber band and contained in said belt tunnel, a first belt end portion connected to one end of said rubber band and extending out of said belt tunnel at one end thereof, a second belt portion connected to' the other end of said rubber band and extending out of said belt tunnel at the other end thereof, and a belt buckle connected to said second belt end portion and disposed outside said belt tunnel and adapted to be fixed to said first belt end portion at a selected portion of the length of said first belt end portion.

2. The combination as set forth in claim 1, which are mens trousers.

3. The combination as set forth in claim 1, which are womens trousers having a forward fly.

4. The combination as set forth in claim 1, in which said trousers comprise a jersey fabric.

Claims

1. The combination of trousers and a belt in which said trousers comprise a waistband consisting of a stretchable fabric having a waistband seam consisting of a chain stitch seam defining a belt tunnel, pocket bags of stretchable fabric, and in which said belt extends through said belt tunnel in the longitudinal direction thereof and comprises an intermediate belt portion consisting of a rubber band and contained in said belt tunnel, a first belt end portion connected to one end of said rubber band and extending out of said belt tunnel at one end thereof, a second belt portion connected to the other end of said rubber band and extending out of said belt tunnel at the other end thereof, and a belt buckle connected to said second belt end portion and disposed outside said belt tunnel and adapted to be fixed to said first belt end portion at a selected portion of the length of said first belt end portion.

2. The combination as set forth in claim 1, which are men''s trousers.

3. The combination as set forth in claim 1, which are women''s trousers having a forward fly.

5. The combination as set forth in claim 1, in which said first belt end portion is provided with a series of holes spaced apart along said first belt end portion and said belt buckle is adapted to interlock with said first belt end portion in one of said holes.

6. The combination as set forth in claim 1, in which said belt end portions consist of one of the materials of the class consisting of leather and artificial leather.
