Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDMUND BURKE KNAPP, OF SAN J AGINTO, CALIFORNIA.
BRIDLE-WINK'ER ATTACHMENT.-
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 377,563, dated February 7, 1888. Application filed November 17, 1887. Serial No. 255,435. (No model.)
In the accompanying'drawings, Figure 1 is.
a perspective view of a winker and winkerfork having my attachment or fastening applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a sectional view, on the line :0 x of Fig. 1, of winker, the winkerfork, and the fastening; and Fig. 3 is a perspective View of the fastening.
Referring to the drawings by letter, A designates the winker-fork, of the usual or any preferred construction, having the enlargement B at the end. 0 designates the winker, having the usual winker-leather, D, winkerplate E, and inner leather or backing, F. The enlargement B of the winker-fork is inserted between the backing F and the winker-plate E and aligned perforations formed through the winker and the said enlargement B.
G designates the fastening, consisting of a plate, H, and the pins I, formed integral therewith and projecting therefrom at right angles thereto. One of these pins is provided at each end of the plate and one at the center of one edge. The pins are inserted through the perforations formed in the winker and the enlargement at the end of the winker-fork, and
then 'bent upon the backing of the winker.
The winker will thus be securely fastened to the winker-fork, being clamped between the plate H and the inner bent ends of the pins I. The winker-fork will be prevented from pulling out for the reason that the pins pass through the enlargement of the same as well as through the winker.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a fastening which is extremely simple and can therefore be made at a slight cost'and which is obviously efficient.
Having thus described my invention, what I 'claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
l. The combination of the winker,thewinker-- fork having an enlargement at its end inserted in the winker, and the fastener-plate having a series of pins projecting therefrom and in-.
serted through the winker and the enlargement of the winker-fork, substantially as specified.
-2. In combination with the winker, the winker-fork inserted within the winker at one end and the fastening-pins passed through the winker-fork and winker to secure the parts together.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as.
myown I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
