To aZZ whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE S. WHITE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Danbury, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scarf or Necktie Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to certain novel and useful improvements in devices for holding scarfs and neckties and placing them in their proper position relative to the shirt-collar, and has for its object to readily adjust the scarf or tie and hold it in place, and, furthermore, to obviate the liability of disarrangement of the same; and with these ends in view my invention consists in the details of construction hereinafter set forth, and then embodied in the claims.

In order that thoseskilled in the art to which my invention appertains may fully understand its construction and operation, I will describe the same in detail, referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improvement; Fig. 2, a front view, and Fig. 3 a detail perspective of the back plate.

Similar letters denote like parts in the several figures of the drawings.

A is the back plate, terminating at its upper end in a step, B, and having at or near its center a longitudinal slot, C.

D are lugs projecting upward and inward from opposite sides of the plate, and formed integral therewith or secured thereto. E E are ears, also formed integral with or secured to said plate.

F are pins hinged to the ears E, and adapted to be secured within the safety-housings G in the ears E.

In assembling my improvement I place the front plate underneath the lugs D and insert the stud I within and through the slot C, and run on said stud a thumb-nut, N.

In attaching my improvement to a collar I first fasten the scarf or tie in position by means of the pins F, then place the step '13 behind the collar, so that the forks L will embrace the collar button and allow the head of the latter to project through the opening J. The front plate is now forced down by manipulating the stud I along the slot C until the shank of the collar-button is brought within the notch K, when the several parts are secured in this position by setting up the nut N. It will be thus seen that the relative position of the scarf or tie to the collar is never changed by any movement of the front plate, the function of the latter being merely to secure the device as a whole to thecollar-button. The springs M, by their bearing against the inside of the collar, prevent any wabbling of the device, and at the same time throw the collar slightly away from the neck, therebyinsuring comfort to the wearer and a more perfect parallelism to the edges of the collar.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. An improved nccktiefastener consisting of a back plate forked at the upper end and provided with pin-fastening devices, a front plate secured to the back plate and adjustable longitudinally, and means, substantially as described, for connecting the front and back plates, said front plate having at its upper end opposite to the fork in the back plate an opening provided with a notch, as and for the purposes hereinbefore set forth and described.

2. The back plate having at one end a forked step and provided with longitudinal slot near the central portion, and with guidelugs and pin-fastcning devices at the edges, in combination with the front plate "having threaded stud near the center and an opening provided with a notch near the upper end, and thumb-nut adapted to engage with said stud and secure thetwo plates together in their various adjustments, substantially as shown and described.
