SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 365,287, dated June 21, 1887.

Application filed April 24, 1886. Serial No. 200,068.

Be it known that I, FRANK LEsLIE Wnrr- TEMORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Eden Mills, in the county of Lamoille and State of Vermont, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Mop Heads, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to an improvement in mop-heads; and it consists in the peculiar construction and combination of devices,that will be more fully set forth hereinafter, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a mop-head embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 00 00 of Fig. 2. A represents a mop head, which is provided on its rear side with a central projecting socket, B. The rear side of the mop-head on opposite sides of the socket B is inclined or beveled, as at 0. Near the ends of the beveled portion of the mop head are made a series of notches, D, which extend for a suitable dis tance from the ends of the head. The front side of the mophead, at the ends thereof, is provided with shoulders E, having recesses F. This mop-head is preferably made ofcast metal, but may be made of any suitable material.

G represents a clamping-bar, which is provided at its extremities with projections H,

that extend at right angles from the bar, and

are adapted to enter the recesses E in the mophead and thereby clamp the rags forming the mop between the bar G and the mop-head.

I represents bails, which are pivoted to the outer ends of the bar G, and are preferably made of wire. These bails are adapted to be swung over the ends of the mop-head and engage with the series of notches D therein, so as to clamp the bar G firmly to the mop-head. At the free ends of the bails are formed loops or thumbholds I, by means of which the bails may be forced into engagement with the notches D, or released from the said notches. The

under the shoulders E of the mop-head. The mop-head is substantially A-shapcd in crossseetion, and the bails I are correspondingly shaped and fit the mop-head closely.

The operation of my invention will be read ily understood from the foregoing description, and by reference to the accompanying drawings.

A mop-head thus constructed is cheap and simple, is strong and durable, and is not likely to get out of order.

Having thus described my invention, I claim- 1. The combination ofthc mop-head, having the notches D, and the clampingbar G, having the pivoted bails I to engage the notches of the mop-head and secure the clampingbar thereto, said head and bar having the adjacent extending cloth-clamping faces, substantially as described.

2. The combination of themop-head, having the notches D on its rear side and the recesses F in its ends, with the clamping-bar G, having the projections II to enter the recesses F, and provided with the pivoted bails I to engage notches D, substantially as described.

3. In a mop, the head having the shoulders E, provided with recesses F, and the notches D, said head being substantially A-shaped in cross-section, combined with the clampingbar G to clamp the cloth against the head, and the bail I, pivoted in the head and provided with the shoulder or bent portion 0 to engage under the shoulders E, said bails corresponding in shape to the-head, so as to fit the same closely and engage with the notches D, and the projections H on the clamping-bar G to lit in the recesses F of the mop-head, as set forth.
