MEDICINE FOR DIPHTHERIA. v
ESPECIE'ICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 326,589, dated September 22. 1885. Application filed January 31, 1895. (No specimens.)
Be it known that I, JOHN A. BEAM, resid-- ing at Barnes, in the county of Washington and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Medical Compounds; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has relation to improvements in medical compounds; and it consists in the following ingredients, combined in the proportions stated, viz: alcohol, thirty-nine gallons; gum-guaiacum, seventeen and a half pounds; gum-myrrh, seventeen and a half pounds; oil of hemlock, twelve and a half pounds; gold thread, twelve and a half pounds. These ingredients are to be thoroughly mingled by agitation, and then allowed to stand for thirty (30) days, when the liquid is ready for use and may be drawn off.
The above-named composition,t-aken according to the directions,will be found an efficient and safe remedy in cases of diphtheria.
Directions: for an adult, from ten (10) to twenty (20) drops, to be taken on sugar. The doses should be taken, according to the severity of the case, from one to six hours apart, until the diphtheritic membrane has been removed. 1
For children, decrease the dose according to the age.
Having described this invention, what I claim is The herein-described composition of matter to be used for the treatment of diphtheria,-
consisting of alcohol, gum-guaiacum, gumlnyrrh, oil of hemlock, and gold-thread, substantially as specified.
