Description
(No Model.) W. R.-JOHNSTON.
COMBINED BELT BUCKLE AND 0UP, N0. 326*?296. Patented Sept. 15, 1885.
WITNESSES DTVENTOR ATTORNEYS.
\VALTER ROBERT JOHNSTON, OF SHERBROOKE, QUEBEC, CANADA.
COMBINED BELT-BUCKLE AND CUP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 326,296, dated September 15, 1885.
Application filed March 3, 1885.
T0 aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WALTER ROBERT J OHN- s'roN, of Sherbrooke, in the Province of Quebec and Dominion of Canada, have invented a new and Improved Combined BeltBuckle and Cup, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention consists, principally,of a beltbuckle and drinking-cup combined, and of the combination therewith of a removable interior box adapted for holding various tools or implements, so that they may be convenicntly carried upon the belt.
The invention also consists of the construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, all as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a belt having my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, the outer casing or cup being shown in vertical section, and thedoor of the inner box being broken away; and Fig. 3 is a horizontal section of the device.
A represents the drinking-cup, made of metal. To the back of this cup A is secured the loop B, to receive the belt 0, and also the hook D, to receive the eye piece or plate E of the belt. IVithin the cup A is placed the inner box,F. This is made also of metal and of a size to accurately fit within the cup A, and in one side of it is formed the opening F,which is closed by the door F At the top the box F is formed with the flangef, to overlap the upper edge of the cup A.
To prevent entrance of water and dust to the cup A, and to insure a perfectly watertightjoint between the outer cup and inner box when the latter is in place in the cup A, I provide the latter at its upper edge with (No model.)
the rubber strip or packing a, that fits in the angle formed by the flangef and the body of the box, and thus exclude all possible entrance of water or dust. The top of the box F is provided with the ring 9, to facilitate the removal of the inner box from the cup A.
I design the cup A, when the inner box is removed and the belt removed from the per son, to be used as a drinking-cup, and I design the inner box for holding the paints or colors of an artist or tools or implements such as comb, compass, scissors, needles, thread, knife, &c.adapting the belt for soldiers, artists, and travelers use.
The cup and box may be made very light and of various sizes, and they may be japanned, nickel-plated, or finished in any desired manner, and, forming a part of the belt, it is not only very convenient, but cheap and practical.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is V 1. The cup A, provided at the back with the metallic loop B, to receive one end of the belt 0, and also with the hook D, to receive the plate E of the belt, substantially as described.
2. Thecup A, having the loop B and hook D, in combination with the inner box, F,having side opening and door F F substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
3. The cup A, having loop B and hook D, and packing a at its upper edge, in combination with the inner box, F, having flangesf and side opening and door, F F substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
\VALTER ROBERT JOHNSTON.
