(Cl. 312-134) This invention relates to a rack or support for articles, and more particularly to a support for bow ties.
The primary object of the present invention is to provide a bow tie holder which is adapted to be used in a convenient location such as in the home or commercial establishment, and wherein with the present invention a plurality of bow ties can be conveniently and attractively supported, and wherein the present invention is constructed so that a particular bow tie can be moved to a desired location within the case as, for example, when such a bow tie is to be removed from the case.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a bow tie holder or support which includes a case that is adapted to be secured to a suitable supporting structure such as a wall or the like, and wherein at least the front portion of the case is adapted to be made of transparent material so that the articles or how ties within the case can be readily observed or viewed, and wherein there is provided a hingedly mounted door which can be selectively opened when a bow tie is to be removed or placed in the case, and wherein there is also provided a convenient manually operable means for shifting a belt so that the bow ties can be conveniently moved to the desired position within the case.
Still another object is to provide such a bow tie holder or support which is economical to manufacture and efficient in operation and which is rugged in structure and foolproof in use.
These and other objects of the invention will become apparent from a reading of the following specification and claim, together with the accompanying drawing, wherein like parts are referred to and indicated by like reference characters, and wherein:

FIG. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of FIG. 2.
FIG. 4 is a sectional view taken on the line 44 of FIG. 2.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral indicates the bow tie holder of the present invention which is shown to comprise a hollow housing or case as indicated generally by the numeral 11, FIG. 1, and the case 11 may be made of a suitable material such as a suitable plastic, and the entire case may be transparent, and at least the front of the case is transparent so that the articles within the case can be readily observed or viewed.
As shown in the drawings, the case 11 includes a back wall 12 which is adapted to have formed integral therewith generally triangular ears 13 which are provided with apertures or openings 14 whereby suitable securing elements such as screws 15 can be extended through such apertures 14 and into engagement with a supporting structure such as a wall in a home or the like.
The case 11 further includes spaced apart end walls 16 as well as spaced parallel side walls 17, and the case also includes a front wall 18.
The numeral 19 indicates a door or closure which is hingedly connected to the front wall 18 as at 20, and the numeral 21 indicates a knob or finger grip which is suitably affixed to the door 19. The case 11 is adapted to be provided with a flange portion 22, and as shown in 'ice FIG. 3, a spring latch or keeper 23 is adapted to be affixed to the flange portion 22 as at 24, and the spring member 23 is adapted to selectively engage and coact with a grooved or recess portion 25 in the door 19 whereby the spring member 23 functions as a latch to prevent accidental or inadvertent opening of the door 19. However, when sufiicient manual pressure is applied to the knob 21, the holding pressure of the spring member 23 can be overcome so as to permit the door 19 to be swung on its hinges 20, as for example when bow ties are to be removed from or placed in the case 11.
The numeral 26 indicates spaced apart support portions or support members which are arranged within the case 11, and the support members 26 are adapted to be formed integral with the inner surfaces or portions of the side Walls 17, as for example as shown in FIG. 2. The numerals 27 and 28 indicate spaced parallel first and second rollers which are journaled in and between the support members 2-6, and the rollers 27 and 28 are rotatably arranged or supported within the case 11 of the holder 10. As shown in FIG. 3 for example, the outer periphery or surface of the roller 27 is adapted to be roughened as at 29 so as to provide an anti-slip surface for an endless belt 30, and the belt 30 is trained over the rollers 27 and 28. The numeral 31 indicates a hand knob which is operatively connected to an outer end portion of the roller 27.
As shown in the drawings a plurality of body pieces 32 are suitably affixed to the movable belt 30, and the body pieces 32 are arranged in diametrically opposed relation with respect to each other adjacent the longitudinal outer edge portions of the belt 39, and these body pieces 32 are adapted to be engaged by the usual clasps 34 of the box ties 33 which are being supported in the case.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that there has been provided a holder which is especially suitable for supporting articles such as bow ties. However, while the present invention has been described and illustrated specifically for use in supporting bow ties, it is to be understood that it can be used for supporting other articles besides bow ties.
With reference to the drawings, it will be seen that the holder 10 of the present invention includes the case 11, and the case 1 1 may be made entirely of transparent material such as a suitable plastic, or else the front portion of the case can be made of transparent material in order to permit the articles such as the bow ties therein to be readily observed or viewed. The case 11 can be fastened to any suitable supporting structure such as a wall in the home or other establishment, and a plurality of bow ties such as the bow ties 33 can be conveniently supported Within the case 11. The bow ties 33 are adapted to be arranged so that their clasp 34 engage the body pieces or flaps 32, and these pieces S2 may be secured as by stitches to the belt 3%, and by having the two rows of body pieces 32, and with the body pieces arranged in diametrically opposed relation with respect to each other as shown in FIG. 2, for example, it will be seen that a bow tie 33 can be conveniently supported by having its clasps 34 engage a pair of the diametrically opposed pieces 32.
Normally the door 119 is closed as shown in FIG. 1, for example, but when it is desired to gain access to the interior of the case 1 1, as for example when a bow tie is to be removed or replaced, it is only necessary to manually grip the member 21 and swing the door 19 open on its hinges 20, so that the bow tie can be readily manually gripped and positioned in the desired location. With the door 19 in closed position, the spring member 23 is adapted to engage a portion such as the recessed portion 25 of the door 19' so as to maintain the door \19 in closed position until it is desired to open the door.
The present invention also includes a means for shifting the belt so that the bow ties 33 can be moved into position contiguous to the door 19 in order to facilitate removal or replacement of the ties in the desired manner. To move the bow ties, it is only necessary to manually rotate the knob 31, and with the knob 31 connected to the roller 27, and with the belt 39 engaging the roller 27, it will be seen that this rotation of the lmob 31 will result in rotation of the roller 27, and this in turn will cause the desired corresponding movement of the belt 38. Then, with the body pieces 32 affixed to the belt 38, and with the bow ties connected to the body pieces 32, it will be seen that the bow ties can be shifted to the desired location. The roughened surface 29 on the roller 27 helps insure that the belt 3i will not slip on the roller so that the desired amount of traction between the roller 27 and belt 36 will be provided.
It is to be noted that with a bow tie 33 arranged as shown in H6. 4, the clasps 3 E- engage the pieces 32, and
these clasps can be readily disengaged from or connected I to the pieces 3.. as desired or required.
The parts can be made of any suitable material and in different shapes or sizes.
With the present invention a person can conveniently or readily select a tie from the holder as desired or required. It will be seen that the belt has the opposed loops or pieces 32 for mounting of the respective bow ties by means of the clas-ps of the ties. By opening the small door 19 and manually turning the knob 31, the user may select the tie that is desired. The belt may be made of a suitable material such as a heavy fabric. The present invention includes the case which is dustproof and which is also attractive in appearance so that for example it can be put up in a nice gift box to make a fine gift for men. By making the front of tne box or case out of clear plastic, it will be easy to select the tie that a person wishes to wear. Also, the present invention can be used for display purposes as well as for convenient use in the home.
Minor changes in shape, size and rearrangement of details coming Within the field of invention claimed may be resorted to in actual practice, if desired.
What is claimed is:
In a bow tie holder, a hollow case including a back Wall, apertured ears on the upper and lower ends of said case, securing element extending through said apertured ears for engaging a supporting structure, said case further including spaced parallel end Walls and spaced parallel side walls, and said case further including a transparent front wall, a door hingedly connected to said front wall, a finger grip alfixed to said door, said case including a flange portion, a spring connected to said flange portion for coaction with said door for selectively maintaining said door in closed position, spaced apart support members arranged in said case and aihxed to said side walls, first and second spaced parallel rollers journaled between said support members, said first roller having a roughened outer periphery, a hand knob operatively connected to said first roller, an endless belt trained over said first and second rollers, a plurality of body pieces affixed to said belt and said body pieces being arranged contiguous to the outer surface of the belt in opposed relation with respect to each other adjacent the longitudinal outer edge portions of the belt, the body pieces adjacent one edge portion of the belt being spaced from the body pieces that are adjacent the other longitudinal edge of the belt, and said body pieces adapted to be engaged by the clasps of how ties being supported in the case, said body pieces having only their outer portions secured to the outer edges of the belt, and there being a space between the inner portions or the body pieces of the belt, there being slots of generally V-shape between the inner portions of adjacent body pieces, the outer portions of the body pieces being free of slots, the inner edges of said body pieces being coplanar, the outer edges of said body pieces being coplanar, and wherein the inner portions of the body pieces flare outwardly away from the belt.
