METAL BREECHlNG-EYE.

CPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 318,527, dated May 26, 1885.

The object of the invention is to provide a light, cheap, and durable breeching eye or cap, and to facilitate the fastening and unlastening of the breeching to the trace.

The invention is also intended to do away with the ring which now attaches the breeching to the trace by means of the leather cap holding it to the breeching and the string tying it to the trace.

These objects are attained by the method set forth and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, where- Figure 1 represents a front view of the metal brecohing-eye as it will appear on the breeehing, with the straps of the breeching running under it from above and the hook or snap which hooks into the trace. Fig. 2 represents a sectional elevation of same.

The line 0 c c c c in Fig. 1 shows the outer margin or circumference of the manufacture. That part, A A A, between said line and line a a is metal, smooth and even, except where rivets (denoted by H) are inserted, until it reaches the line (I (Z, where the metal thickens.

The part 0, inclosed in the lines I) b, is a hole, which maybe cut through the leather when an additional strap is desired to be used for heavy-draft purposes. The part B, inclosed in the lines (Z (Z c c at the lower part of the figure, represents the swelled or enlarged portion of the metal in which'the snap E is fastened. F and G at the top of the figure indicate the breeching straps, to which the metal eye will be at taehed. Fig. 2 represents a sectional view of the same, showing the enlargement B, where the metal is swelled or enlarged, to give strength where the only strain occurs, in which enlargement the eye or hole is made in which the hook E is fastened. In this figure, A represents the metal represented by A A A in Fig. 1. H shows a rivet running through and fastening the leather of the breeching G and the leather lining in the rear to the metal A. In Fig. 2, K K shows alcather lining the size and shape of the metal breeching-eye 011 the front. The part 0 shows where a hole may be cut for a strap when an additional strap is desired for heavy-draft purposes. Between this leather lining and the metal attachment in front the two heavy breechingstraps G and F come down, and are fastened and held by the rivets (indicated at H) in the leather lining. These rivets extend through the leather lining, the breeching, and the metal attachment in front, holding them all together.

It will be seen that by placing the metal plate on the outer side of the straps, it does not come in contact with the flank of the draft-animal; hence there is no chafing.

I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. The combination, with the breechingstraps, of the metal plate riveted to and connecting the same, said plate having an en larged portion, B, formed with an opening,

and a snaphook adapted to engage said open- 1 ing, substantially as set forth.

2. The combination, with the breeehing and hip straps, of a metal plate located on the hip straps at one end, and having registering openings, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
