SPECIFICATION forming part; of Letters Patent No. 302,110, dated July 15, 1884. Application filed J annary 23, 1884. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concept:
Be it known that I, HIRSQES. DAiNZIGER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Waste-Pipe Protectors, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to, the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improved means for keeping clear the discharge-pipes of basins, &e.
The object of the invention is to provide means whereby all dirt, hair, soap, and other foreign substances are prevented from entering the discharge-pipe of basins, 85cm; and to that end it consists of the novel devices and combination of devices described and e. aimed.
Reference will be made to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a sectional view of a basin, showing the discharge o 2811 for the escape of water; Fig. 2, a similar view with the stopper in place; Fig. 3, a plan of a perforated disk to be placed in the dischargecollect all foreign substances.
opening; and Fig. 4., a front elevation of said disk and means for keeping it iii, position.
Like letters refer to like 'partsin each view. A represents a basin, provided with the ordinary discharge-pipe, a, and waste-channel b. Discharge-pipe a is inserted into pipe B, as usual, and situated within said pipe a are the usual cross-pieces, a, now used to retard and A perforated disk, 0, made of any suitable material, and of a suitable size, is placed within the dischargepipe a, and to the lower face of such disk one end of a spring, d, is secured, the opposite end of said spring resting upon the cross-pieces a, before referred to.
These last-named parts I are so arranged that when the stopperD,which may be attached to the basin by chain c, is removed to allow of the escape of the water, the disk 0 is flush with the surface of the basin,
basin all foreign substances which would clog the pipe. When the stopper D is inserted into the dischargeopening of the basin, the spring d is contracted, and the parts occupy the position shown in Fig. 2, the spring d being of such size and strength that it will serve to force the disk 0 to its position when the stopper is removed, but will not force the stopper from its seat.
By the arrangement of parts as described, all foreign substances are collected before entering the discharge-pipe, and may be easily removed from the basin, and therefore all annoyances arising from the clogging ol'the pipes are avoided.
I am aware that a movable perforated on p has been placed in a waste-pipe, and do not claim such a construction; but
What I claim is-- 1. The combination, with a wash-basin, of a vertically-adj ustable perforated disk situated within the waste-pipe of the same, as set forth.
2. In a wash-basin, a perforated disk situated within the discharge-pipe thereof, in combination with a spring secured to said disk, whereby all foreign substances are excluded from the discharge-pipe, as set forth.
In testim ony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.

as shown in Fig. l, and thus collects in the a It is hereby certified that in Letters Patent No. 302,110, granted July 15,1384, upon ithe application of Hirsch V. Darnziger, of Chicago, Illinois, for an improvement in iflWaste-Pipe Protectors, an error a'ppears in the printed specification requiring corarection, as follows: In line 59, the word movable should read removable and that the Letters Patent should be read with this correction therein to make it conform to ithe record of the case in the Patent- Office. Signed, countersigned, and sealed this 26th day of August, A. D. 1884.
