UNITED STATES PATENT DFFIGE.
LOUIS JONES, JR, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN SINKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 169,551, dated November 2, 1875; application filed May 4, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LoUIs JoNEs, Jr., of
the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sinks, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a front View, partly in section. 'Fig'. 2 is a horizontal section.
basin of my sink, which may have any chosen outline, and which is provided with a grating, formed by a group of perforations, a. This grating is situated in proximity to one of the walls of the basin, which wall has an addition, B, cast therewith, in such a manner as to form a passage, 0, in said wall. The addition or part B is provided with perforations b, so that .in case the grating a becomes stopped up with dirt or other substance, the water escapes from the basin A by the perforations b, which thus form an overflow to the passage 0. Beneath 'the grating a is situated a funnel-shaped device, D, which forms the outlet of the basin,
and forms the connection thereof with the waste-pipe E. The passage G and the funnel D communicate with each other, so that the water escaping from the basin, in all cases, finds its way to the waste-pipe E. The wastepipe E has a trap, F, and the connection therewith of'the funnel I) is effected through a flanged nut, G. The letter H designates sockets cast on the side of the basin A. The purpose of these sockets is to form a facile means of connecting with the basin a series of legs, I, by which the basin is held in an elevated position, the ends "of the legs being simply adjusted in the sockets H, and held in place by the weight of the basin.
The part B, as well as the funnel D and the socket GF, being all cast in one piece with the basin, the cost of the sink is materially reduced and, besides, the time and labor necessary to fasten thesaid parts are saved.
The rear wall of the basin is provided with an extension, J, having segmental ribs 0, so that when the basin is put up in a house or other place, the ribs 0 and extension J form a shield to the water-pipes. The extension J may be cast with the basin or made separate therefrom, as seen fit.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The extension J, having the ribs b, in combination with a sink-basin, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
