J. KREHBIEL.
CAPSULE MACHINE. I
Patented Apr. 15, 1884.
N4 PETERS. Phcio-Ulhogmpmr. W-Ishmglcn. n. 1
UNITED STATES PATENT Orrrcn.
J OHN KREHBIEL, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO THE GLOEiE GAP- SULE COllIPANY AND HENRY J. MILBURN, OF SAME PLACE.
CAPSULE-MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 296,847, dated April 15, 1884.
Application filed November 3, 1883. (N0 model.)
To all? whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN KREHBIEL, of Detroit, in the county of W'ayne and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Devices for Greasing Capsule Mold-Pins; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in devices for greasing or lubricating gelatine-capsule molds; and the invention consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of the devices employed, whereby the molds upon a mold-plate are simultaneousl y and uniformly greased or lubricated, and in the peculiar construction, arrangement, and combination of the various parts, all as more fully hereinafter set forth.
Figure l is a perspective view ofmy improved lubricating device, partly broken away. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on the line X X in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a vertical central section of one of the lubricating-thimblesdetached.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, A represents a suitable plate, through which is bored a series of holes, a, somewhat larger than the lubricatingthiinbles B, which are inserted in them, these thimbles being located at such distances apart and in relation to each other that they will register with the mold-pins upon which they are designed to be used. Upon the two sides of this plate A, I rigidly secure the rubber or other suitable elastic face-plates, C G, through which are likewise formed holes for the reception of lubricating thimbles. These lubricatingthimbles consist of a hollow or tubular body, a, the inner end of which terminates in a solid pin onstud, b, the body a being slotted or divided longitudinally by the slot 0. The bore of the bodies is designed to be somewhat larger than the circumference of the mold-pins with which they are to be employed, and receive a greasing rag, d, which has been properly saturated or supplied with a suitable lubricant, and are held in place by a cord, 6, which passes through the slots in the bodies of thimbles, and over the lubiicating-cloth, along the side of the pins 6, and out through the smaller hole in the plate 0, around which such cord is tied, the thimble being secured against displacement by a pin, f, or other suitable means. The free ends of the lubricatingcloth are then brought over the ends of thethimbles, which are provided with a slight enlargement or flange and receive upon them an elastic band, preferably, which holds them to place, and yet admits of a certain amount of giving or elasticity to the body of the thimbles, as here inafter described.
In practice, the device being constructed substantially as herein shown and set forth, it' 6 5 is held over the mold-pins in such manner that each pin will enter its respective lubricatingthimble, The device is now pushed down over the molds, bringing their ends and sides in contact with the lubricating-cloths, after which the device is withdrawn ready to be used upon the next plate of molds. By providing the elastic faces and slotting the thimbles, I provide means whereby the Various thimbles will have a certain amount of lateral adjustment, so that they will register with the mold-pins should they be out of true or bent one way or the other to the side, while at the same time having these thimbles sepa rate and removably secured within the plate, they are readily moved when in need of re pair, and can readily be supplied with a fresh lubricant.
What I claim as my invention is 1. A hand-tool for lubricating or greasing gelatine-capsule moldpins, consisting of a series of self-adjustingthimbles set in ayielding support and carrying the lubricant, and
' adapted to register with the mold-pins upon the plate, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. In a device for lubricating capsule moldpins, the slotted thimbles B, within the bore of which are secured by the cord 6 the greasingcloths (2, such thimbles being arranged in a yielding bed-plate, by means of which said thimbles are capable of adjusting themselves to register with the pins to be lubricated, substantially as described.
' JOHN KREHBIEL.
