scram. cli 2-27 9 This invention relates to pocket ornaments and more particularly to an ornamental insert for use in a coat pocket in place of a handkerchief.

The present invention provides a decorative pocket insert in the form of an adjustable multi-colored band mounted for rotative adjustment on a frame and having a plurality of different colored sections, one of which may be selected for its matching characteristics with respect to the colored shirt or tie of the wearer, such selected section being adapted to be displayed above the upper edge of the wearers coat pocket while the remaining sections are concealed from view inside the pocket.

An object of my invention is to provide an ornamental pocket insertcomprising a plurality of diiferent colored strips or sections connected together to form a substantially flat band which is adjustably mounted on a supporting frame and which is adapted to be positioned so a selected colored section matching the shirt or tie of the wearer is visible above the upper edge of the wearers coat while the remaining colored sections are concealed inside such pocket.

Another object of my invention is to provide a combination adjustable frame and a multi-colored adjustable band supported on the frame, the frame being adjustable as to length and shape to conform to the size and shape of a particular pocket and the band being provided with an elastic section allowing the band to fit properly on the frame irrespective of its adjusted length and shape,

Other and further objects of my invention will be pointed out hereinafter, or will be indicated in the appended claims or will be obvious to one skilled in the art upon an understanding of the present disclosure. For the purpose of this application, I have elected to show herein certain forms and details of a pocket insert representative of my invention; it is to be understood, however, that the embodiment of my invention herein shown and described is for purposes of illustration only, and that Un t at s P Q 2,839,758 Patented June 24, 1958 2 V t which are colored differently one from another. So as to permit the expansion and contraction of the band, a rectangular section 5 of easily stretchable elastic material is connected to and positioned between two of the sections .4. While the band is shown on the drawing for illustration purposes as comprising a number of rectangular cloth therefore it is not to be regarded as exhaustive of the 4 variations of the invention in the art.

Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a coat having a front breast pocket 2 within which my improved ornamental insert is held.

The insert is in the form of a substantially flat, endless band 3, preferably having a uniform width and comprising a plurality of substantially rectangular sections 4 strips sewed together along their longitudinal edges, it is also within the scope of my invention to havethe differently colored sections printed on or woven into an elongated fabric strip which is formed into a band. The flattened band is of s ufficient width to fit within the lateral edges of the pocket 2, and preferably such band when flat is sufficiently long to extend from slightly above the upper edge of the pocket to the bottom thereof.

So as to maintain the band in a substantially flat position and to normally prevent the distortion thereof when it is positioned in the pocket, I have provided a substantially rectangular frame 6 for mounting such band, The frame is adjustable to make it possible to lengthen the band to fit ditferent size pockets or to change the relative positions of the upper and lower edges of the band so the upper edges of the band and the pocket are in substantially parallel positions.

The frame comprises upper and lower end pieces 7 and 8 which are pivotally connected as by pivotmembers 9 to telescopically arranged leg members 10 and 11, respectively, such leg members forming two (2) adjustable legs. The leg members 10 and 11 are preferably formed with serrations as at 12 which frictionally engage with one another to normally prevent the extension or contraction of the legs when the band is mounted on the frame and when the band is under tension due to the elastic section 5 being extended.

It will be noted that the end pieces 7 and 8 of the frame may be positioned in paralel inclined positions as well as in horizontal positions, as indicated by the broken and full lines of Fig. 4, thereby making it possible to distort the band 3 sufliciently to cause the upper edge thereof to be positioned in parallel relationship with an obliquely disposed upper edge of a pocket. The frame 6 may be contracted or collapsed by manually urging the end pieces 7 and 8 thereof toward each other, thereby permitting the band to be easily mounted thereon and arranged so its ends engage with and extend around the said end pieces. The frame may be extended by manually urging the end pieces 7 and 8 in opposite directions, thereby bringing such end pieces into engagement with the ends of the band to hold the latter in a flattened position and to normally prevent its distortion. The elastic section 5 of the band makes it possible to distort the band sufficiently to bring its ends into tensioned engagement with the end pieces 7 and 8 of the frame when such end pieces are in inclined positions. The frame is preferably made from suitable plastic material, and while the end pieces and leg members thereof are each substantially rigid, there is sufficient flexibility in the sides of the female leg members 10 to permit the relative movement of the telescopic leg members 10 and 11 when sufficient pressure is applied to the end pieces to overcome the frictional engagement of the serrated portions 12.

The band being provided with a number of diiferent colored sections permits the wearer to have at his disposal a variety of colored pocket ornaments to match the color of the particular shirt or necktie he might be wearing, without the necessity of purchasing different colored handkerchiefs. Whenever it is desired that the particular colored section 4 which is to be displayed above the pocket is to be changed, it is only necessary to advance or rotate the band around the frame 6 until the selected colored section 4 is uppermost. To provide an increased number of colored sections the band may be located on the reverse side.

What I claim is 1' 1. A pocket insert comprising a substantially flat frame adapted to fit in a coat pocket, and a substantially flat, endless adjustable band extending around the frame in tensioned relationship therewith, the band having a plurality of dififerently colored sections arranged transversely in adjoining relationship and the band being mounted for rotative'adjustment on the frame. 7 r

A pocket insert comprising a substantially flat frame adapted to fit in a coat pocket and having upper and lower adjustable transverse end pieces, and a substantially fiat flexible endless band mounted on the frame in engagement with the end pieces of the frame, the band having a plurality of adjoining colored transverse sections and the band being rotatively adjustable on th frame.

3. A pocket insert comprising a substantially flat frame adapted to fit in a coat pocket and having top and bottom transverse edges, and a substantially flat endless, contractible and expansible band adjustably extending around the frame and arranged in tensioned relation with the top and bottom edges thereof, the band having a plurality of differently colored rectangular sections arranged transversely in adjoining parallel relationship, the band also being rotatively adjustable on the frame and having a transverse elastic tehsioning section.
