DOOR-KNOB EXTENSION HANDLE Original Filed Sept. 3. 1954 INVENTOR;

ATTORNEYS United States Patent DOOR-KNOB EXTENSION HANDLE Arwid 3'. Sutter, Ontario, Calif.
Original application September 3, 1954, Serial No. 454,649, now Patent No. 2,756,088, dated July 24, 1956. Divided and this application June 14, 1956, Serial No. 591,437
1 Claim. (Cl. 292-347) This invention relates to a door-knob extension handle.
An object of the invention is to provide an efficient doorknob attachment whereby the door-knob, upon which the device is mounted, can be easily rotated when manual pressure is applied.
Another object of this invention is to provide a manually-operated device that is securely clamped to the spindle of a door-knob for efliciently operating a door-lock.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, this invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
This is a divisional application growing out of my allowed application, Ser. No. 454,049, filed September 3, 1954, and allowed January 11, 1956, Door-Knob Extension Handle, now Patent No. 2,756,088, dated July 24, 1956.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of this invention, and
Figure 2 is a plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a sectional view of the invention taken on line 3-3, Figure 1 and looking in the direction of the arrows. This figure also shows the door-knob in full lines.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on line 44, Figure 3, and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 is the spindle of an ordinary door-lock, on the outer end of which spindle is an ordinary door-knob 2.
The extension handle 3 of this invention comprises an elongated lever 4 that is usually gripped by the operator to manipulate the device. The inner end of the handle-3 is provided with a curved chamber 5 which is adapted to embrace the perimetrical portion of door-knob 2, Fig. 3. Integral with the handle 3 at the curved chamber 5 is a lateral extension 6 which terminates at its outer end in a flat portion 7. This fiat portion 7 rests snugly upon a portion of the spindle 1 as shown, with a ring-like clamp 8 on said fiat portion 7. This clamp 8 is provided with a bolt and nut of common construction for holding the ends of said common clamp 8 together. This clamp 8 securely fastens the extension handle 3 in place as shown. It is to be understood that the fiat portion 7, Fig. 3, is curved in cross section.
It is readily understood that when this invention is applied to a door-knob the leverage permitted by the device will enable the door-knob to be turned with a minimum of muscular effort.
While I have described the preferred embodiment of the invention and illustrated the same in the accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may apper to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates during the extensive manufacture of the same, and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such changes or alterations as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
In a device of the character described, the combination with a hand operated door knob provided with a spindle, of a rigid lever provided with an under curved chamber at one end adapted to embrace a perimetrical portion of said hand operated door knob in an arc therealong, said lever being normal to said spindle, a lateral extension on said lever at said curved end extending in the same longitudinal direction on said spindle a substantial distance along said spindle beyond said knob, and means clampmg said extension on said spindle.
