UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AUGUST SCHULZE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR OF THREE-FOURTHS TO SIGMUND LANGSDORF, 0F SAME PLACE.
HAND-MIRROR HOLDER FOR TOILET-CASES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 275,949, dated April 17, 1883,
Application filed March 2, 1883. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUST SGHULZE, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hand-Mirror Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a perspective view of a toiletcase to which my improvement has been applied, shown open. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the mirror-holder. Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation of the same, taken through the line 00 m, Fig. 2v Fig. 4 is a sectional end elevation of the same, taken through the line y y, Fig. 3.
The object of this invention is to provide hand-mirror holders constructed in such amanner as to adapt them to receive and hold securely hand-mirrors of various shapes and sizes.
The invention consists in a hand-mirror holder constructed with a grooved block having a stationary recessed catch at one end, a plate sliding in the groove of the block, and having a recessed bar attached to it, and a spring attached to the block and the sliding plate, whereby a hand-mirror will be securely held and can be readily put in and taken out, as will be hereinafter fully described.
A is the lower part, and B is the upper part,ot' the toilet-case, which parts are hinged to each other, and are provided with a fastening in the ordinary manner.
To the inner side of the upper part or cover, B, of the toilet-case is secured a block, (J, in the face of which isforined adovetailed groove, D, extending from one end of the block (J nearly to its other end. Into the groove D is fitted a plate, E, which is made shorter than the said groove, so that it can slide longitudinally.
To the face of the outer end of the sliding plate E is attached a cross-bar, F, the inner side of which is recessed or flanged to receive and hold the end of a mirror. To the other end of the block 0 is attached a stationary bar or catch, G, which is recessed upon its in- 0 ner side to receive and hold the end of the mirror-handle. The middle part of the block 0 is slotted to receive a spring, H, of rubber, metal, or other suitable material. One end of the spring H is attached to the block 0, and
its other end is attached to the sliding plate E, so that the said plate will be held inward by the tension of the spring H. With this construction the mirroris inserted in the holder by placing the end of the said mirror in the recess of the holding-bar F and pushing the said bar F and the slide E outward, so that the end of the mirror-handle can be inserted in the recess of the stationary catch G, and
the mirror will be held securely in place by the tension of the spring H. The mirror is removed by pushing it forward until its handle can be raised from the catch G. With this construction mirrors of various styles, shapes,
and sizes can he held by the same holder, so
that it will no longer be necessary for the dealer to have cases made expressly for all the different shapes and sizes of mirrors.
The case is designed to be lined with satin orother suitable material in the ordinary man- 7 ner,as shown in Fig. 1, so that the holder will be wholly concealed.
Having thus described my invention, [claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A hand-mirrorholder made substantially as herein shown and described, and consisting of the grooved block (3, having stationary recessed catch G,the sliding plate E, having-recessed bar F, and the spring H, whereby a hand-mirror will be securely held and can be
