SIIL as. to be. useful as a. container for a. bottle of;nail.,po1is horlthellikeuas well as to provide support forthe .lfingers. during the application ofi p'olish.
The above and othervobjects ofithe invention will be apparent from. the following description ofzcertainlpreferred embodiments thereof asillustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the finger rest with a hand shown in conjunction therewith showing the positioning of the finger rest and the hand with respect to a surface on which they are supported.
Figure 2 is a full size side elevational view of the finger rest.
Figure 3 is an end elevational view of the finger rest.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary sectional view taken as indicated by the line 4-4 in Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary perspective view of the finger rest illustrating the manner of removal of the bottom piece or bottom cover therefor.
Figure 6 is an end elevational view of a modified form of the finger rest.
Figure 7 is a sectional view taken as indicated by the line 1-1 in Figure 6, showing schematically a bottle of finger polish within the container.
Figure 8 is an end elevational view of another embodiment of the invention.
Figure 9 is a fragmentary sectional view taken as indicated by the line 9-9 in Figure 8.
Referring first to Figures 1, 2, 3. 4, and 5, the
er or a. bottl of il,
of the block HIpOSitiQI th 2 finger rest comprises; a m l'dfid' hQIljoW block 10' of. a plastic material; The block .is. of. generally trapezoidal transverse 'QSfi-vSGCtiQIL and is. designed to present optimum conditionsiof use and support for the hand I I oithe. user, Inorder tov position the fingers inasteady spaced-apart condition to provide for easy application of polish thereto, there are providedthree; alrcuate concave recesses l 2 extending; transversely of the..narrow.-- top of the body It] with theicurvature. of. each recess slightly reduced or. flattened, at its end portions to provide a l similar flattening of; the} fingers in resting therein. The; depth of, therecesses 12 is preferablydesathan thenormal height of, the fingerslresting therein. Threerecesses I2 are shown, andjt is preferredtochavew not more than three. and not less: than two re -er cesses for, proper relaxedpositioning of thevhand andsupportvof, thetfiri eli Breferably the height .eebot e V of e reg cesses I: a distance .abcut qualgtostwice the normal height of fingers, of an. average, adult,
hand when resting one; surface-so that with'the forefinger, middle'flnger and, third fingersupported, at approximately the first joint of the fingers., the hand isresting in-a ,relaxedposition; on the ur ace whi h [t e fin e e t p DOrted. Asseen in Figure3 the -side walls 13 of, the finger rest, taperoutwardly-and; downwardly to provide a broader base and are preferably thickened at their bottom edges as at [3a. Associated with the block I0 is a bottom piece or cover [4 which has side lips l6 adapted to snugly engage along either side wall I 3 to close the bottom of the finger rest and provide a cavity therein in which a bottle of nail polish may be received.
In the form of the invention shown in Figures 6 and 7, the bottom piece or cover I! is slidably engaged with opposite longitudinal grooves or recesses I 8 in the inner surfaces of the respective side walls I 3 with the end wall [9 terminating at the upper surface of the bottom piece I1. In Figure 7, there is schematically shown a bottle 2| of nail polish in place within the container portion of the finger rest.
Referring to Figures 8 and 9, there is provided a bottom piece 22 which is recessed along its edges to form respective seats for the side walls I 3. The central portion is frictionally engaged between respective portions |3a of the side walls so as to be held in place and close the container portion of the finger rest.
Referring to Figure 1, a hand H is shown in a relaxed position on the supporting'surface 23,
such as a table, with the forefinger, middle finger and third finger in place in the three grooves 12. The little finger and the thumb rest in a relaxed yet out-of-the-way position, so that the polish can be applied to the fingers on the finger rest without interference. It will be noted that the optimum position of the fingers is with their first joints supported against flexing by the finger rest and with the fingers themselves projecting above the top of the grooves [2. The finger nails are supported in a position where the polish can be applied easily with the fingers held steady and against accidental movement. After the application of the polish to the three fingers, as shown in Figure 1, the hand is moved to the left with the little finger placed in the groove occupied by the forefinger in the illustration and the polish is applied thereto. The thumb can be placed in one of the grooves by placing the finger rest adjacent the edge of the table or by holding the finger rest with its bottom supported on the four fingers of the hand with the thumb grasping the finger rest in one of the grooves.
It will be appreciated that the invention can be embodied in forms other than those shown herein so that its scope should be limited only by the scope of the claims appended hereto.
I claim:
1. A finger rest for use in the application of finger nail polish and the like, consisting of a body structure having a top surface and side surfaces tapering outwardly and downwardly therefrom to a broader base, said body structure including end surfaces extending downwardly from the ends of said top surface and defining the total length of said finger rest, a plurality of not more than three spaced-apart concave horizontal recesses extending transversely across said top surface, said recesses being less in depth than the average thickness of a finger, and the bottom of said recesses being spaced from the base a distance from about one to three times said finger thickness, said recesses being adapted to support the forefinger, middle finger and the third finger of a hand with the thumb and the little finger resting on a finger rest supporting surface and with the little finger adjacent one of said end surfaces of said body structure.
2. A finger rest for use in the application of finger-nail polish and the like comprising an elongated hollow body having a top surface provided with a plurality of transverse concave recesses therein to receive and support the fingers of the hand, said body having an apertured base of wider transverse dimension than said top surface and having inclined side surfaces, and a cover removably engaged with said base to close the aperture therein to provide a surface engaging supportfor the body and having side lips engaging over the side surfaces of the body.
3. A finger rest for use in the application of finger-nail polish and the like comprising an elongated hollow body having a top surface provided with a plurality of transverse concave recesses therein to receive and support the fingers of the hand, said body having an apertured base of wider transverse dimension than said top surface and having side walls having internal surfaces, and a cover removably engaged with said base to close the aperture therein and to provide asurface engaging support for the body and having side surfaces frictionally engaged with the internal surfaces of said side walls.
4. A finger rest for use in the application of finger-nail polish and the like comprising an elongated hollow body having a top surface provided with a plurality of transverse concave recesses therein to receive and support the fingers of a hand, said body having an apertured base of wider transve'se dimension than said top surface and including opposite walls, having side surfaces, and a cover removably engaged with said base to close the aperture therein and to provide a surface engaging support for the body, said cover having'opposite side portions, each side portion of said cover being engaged with a side surface of one of said side walls of said body.
