Description

(No Model.) v
J. H. SPRAGUE.
FINGER RING.
No. 253,233. Patented Feb. 7,1882,
WH-NEEEEE. INVEIN'FUFM -ZLJMW IINTTED STATES PATENT DFFICE.
JAMES H. SPRAGUE, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO EDI VARD A. & WILLIAM H. LUTHER, OF SAME PLACE.
FINGER-RING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 253,233, dated February 7,1882.
Application filed November 9, 1881. (No model.)
To all whomit may concern Be it known that I, JAMEs H. SPRAGUE, of Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Finger-Rings; and I do hereby declare that the following specification, taken in connection with the drawings making a part of the same, is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
Figure l is a view of the band. Fig. 2 is a view of the ornamentation. Fig.3 is a view of the setting. Fig. 4 shows the ring complete, with stone.
My invention relates to that class of rings in which an ornamental stone is secured iii a suitable setting; and it consists in constructing and putting togetherthe several parts with out the aid of solder, as hereinafter described.
A, Fig. l, is the band which surrounds thefinger, and is made from a suitable strip of metal, the ends of which are not united, but terminate in perpendicular lips B B.
0, Fig. 2, is an ornamental piece struck up from sheet metal, and having a transverse slot, D.
E, Fig. 3, is the setting, which is also struck up from sheet metal, with a slot, F, and prongs G G G G.
The several parts of my invention having been formed as described, and shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, I first take the band A and pass the lips B B through the slot D of the ornamental piece O, and then through the slot F of the setting E. I then bend over the protruding ends of the lips B B in opposite directions, which secures the three parts firmly together,
ble of being extended or contracted to fit fingels of different sizes, and also of Patent No. 241,453, of May 10, 1881, to D. Untermeyer, in which the band is detachable for the purpose of substituting a longer or a smaller one, as required, as well as changing the stone and setting to suit the convenience or taste of the wearer. In my invention the band is neither capable of being extended, contracted, nor detached; and I make no claim to the particular inventions set forth in said patents.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The band A, with its lips B B, in combination with the slotted ornamental piece 0 and the slotting setting E, the whole firmly united without the aid of solder by passing said lips through the slots in the ornamental piece and setting and turning down the protruding ends thereof, as described.
JAMES H. SPRAGUE.
