This invention relates to a garment, and while the invention might have other applications, it particularly is designed to be applied to a childs garment. It is desirable that the young child or baby have a garment that simplifies diaper changing; and, for the sake of appearance, a garment that covers the diaper completely.

It is a further object of the invention to provide a garment having a portion extending above the waist and providing arm and neck openings, together with a portion extending downwardly at the front of the garment and having a free end, said latter portion being adapted to be passed rearwardly between the legs and then folded upwardly to said nrst mentioned portion and then It is another object of this invention to provide such a garment as set forth above, in which a minimum of button fastenings on the outer garment allows easy access to the diaper on the child. A simple manipulation of the lower part of the garment conveniently permits a diaper change without removing the upper portion of the garment. A waterproof layer is attached to the lower area of the garment and eliminates the separate operation of putting on rubber pants to keep the outer garment dry. Because the lower area of the garment follows the outline of a kite I fold diaper which will be Worn underneath, the diaper is completely concealed by the outer wrapping of the garment.

It is also an object of the invention to provide such a garment as set forth in the preceding paragraph, together with a layer of Waterproof material detachably secured to the inner side of and substantially covering said second portion.

It is still another object of the invention to provide a childs garment having ya portion extending above the waist at the front and rear thereof and provi-ding neck and sleeve openings, a second portion extending downwardly at the 'front of said first portion, the sides thereof diverging to a free end of the same, which end is substantially horizontal, fastening means adjacent the ends of said free end and intermediate the ends thereof, said rst mentioned portion having fastening means adjacent the waistline at the front and rear thereof, said second portion being adapted to be folded upwardly and have the fastening means intermediate the ends of its free ends secured to the fastening means at the rear of said rst mentioned portion and being adapted to have its corner portions passed around to the front of the garment and the fastening means adjacent the ends of its free ends secured to the fastening means at the front of 2 said rst mentioned portion, thus providing leg openings.

It is also an object of the invention to provide such a garment as set forth in the preceding paragraph, said second portion having spaced fastening means at its top and bottom at its inner side, and a layer of waterproof material having spaced fastening means adjacent its top and bottom adapted to cooperate with the fastening means on said second portion to secure thesame thereto.

It is another object of the invention to provide such a garment as set forth in the preceding paragraph save one, said second portion preferably having a belt secured along its free end and being preferably stretchable longitudinally along said end, together with means connected to said rst mentioned portion adapted. to have a diaper secured thereto.

These and other objects and advantages of the invention will be fully set forth in the following description made in connection with the accompanying drawings in which like references characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views and in which:

In operation the portion 283e will be placed over the childs head and the straps c will extend over the shoulders of the child. The arms are thus quite free. The child will be provided with a diaper or other suitable underwear and when the garment is placed in position, portion 28e will depend at the front of the child. Portion 20e is now brought rearwardly between the legs and folded upwardly substantially on a medium horizontal line. The loop Elli will be buttoned over button l2 at the rear and the corner parts of 26e will be passed around to the front of the garment respectively and strings H will be passed respectively through the loops 20h and then tied in a suitable manner as in the bow shown in Fig. 8. Layer i5 will of course have been placed in position. The diaper on the child or any other underwear can be fastened by safety pins at each end of flap 28j. The diaper of the child is covered by layer l5 so that the garment is protected from any wetting or soiling. Should it be necessary to change the diaper on the child, portion 212e can be very easily and quickly released to take its hanging position shown in Figs. 6 and 7. Layer I5 can easily be wiped off or cleaned if necessary, portion 26e again raised and secured in its operative position and the child is again ready for play or other activity.

From the above description it will be seen that I have provided a garment which is quite simple in construction, and which is pleasing in appearance. As described, the garment is protected by layer i3 from being wetted or soiled. The garment is also easily, quickly and conveniently manipulatable for changing the diaper or other underwear of the child. Another advantage of the garment is that it gives very great freedom of movement for the child. The childs arms and legs are largely exposed which is desirable in a summer garment.

It will of course be understood that various changes may be made in the form, details, arf rangement and proportions of the parts, Without departing from the scope of applicants invention, which generally stated, consists in a device capable of carrying out the objects above set forth, in the parts and combinations of parts disclosed and defined in the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

l. An outer garment for a child having in combination, a portion extending above the waist encircling the body and having arm and neck openings, said portion at the rear terminating substantially at the waist-line, said garment having a second and front portion extending from side to side of the same at the waist-line and extending downwardly to a line quite a distance below the crotch of the wearer, the side edges of said latter portion diverging to its bottom edge which edge extends substantially horizontally, said second portion being constructed and arranged to depend freely from its top, a fastening means disposed centrally at the rear of said first mentioned portion substantially at the waist-line, a second fastening means disposed centrally at the front of said first mentioned portion substanbelly `at the Waistiline, Said Swed se@ frnt portion being adapted to be passed rearwardly between the legs, then folded upwardly with said bottom edge disposed substantially at the waistline and to have the corner portions thereof brought around to the front of said garment and to loosely overiie the upper central part of said second portion, fastening means at the ends of said lower edge of said second portion cooperating with said second fastening means at the front of and a fastening means at the central part ci said lower edge of said second portion cooperating with said fastening means at the rear of said garment.

2. The structure set forth in claim l, a belt eX- tending along said lower edge of said second portion, the same having an elastic section intermediate its ends.

3. The structure set forth in claim l, said second portion having laterally spaced fastening means adjacent its top and bottom and a sheet of waterproof material of trapezoidal form having a fastening means at its corners adapted to cooperate with said rast mentioned fastening means.

4. An outer garment for a child having in combination, a bodice portion having parts extending over the shoulders and having arm and neck openings, said portion terminating at the rear substantially at the waist-line, said garment having a second and front portion extending from side to side of said garment and connected at its upper end to the front of said bodice portion, said second portion being of trapezoidal shape and having unbroken and substantially rectilinear side and bottom edges, said second portion being constructed and arranged to depend freely at the front of said garment, a fastening means disposed centrally of said first mentioned portion adjacent the waist-line and at the front thereof, a second fastening means disposed centrally of said rst mentioned portion substantially at the waist-line at the rear thereof, fastening means adjacent the lower corners of said second portion and a fastening means adjacent the lower edge of said second portion substantially centrally thereof, said second portion being adapted to be passed rearwardly between the legs of the wearer and its lower edge brought substantially to the waist-line, said last mentioned fastening means cooperating with said second fastening means, the lower corners of said second portion being adapted to be brought around to the front of said garment and freely overlie the upper part of said second portion, said fastening means at the corners thereof cooperating with said lirst mentioned fastening means.
