Description
May 2, 1950 M. YAGGY KICKING MAN TOY Filed Oct. 51, 1947 I INVENTOR.
BY W
HY'Y'OF/Vi'y Patented May 2, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to a kicking man toy.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a toy including a man figure with a leg adapted to be swung upwardly in response to the fiow of ball weight elements and a boy figure having a jaw portion or other operable part adapted to be engaged by the leg as it is swung upwardly and wherein there is a return passage for the bail weights in communication with the operating passage for the weights wherein the weights can be relocated in the operating passage by inverting the toy.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a kicking man toy which is operable in response to the downward movement of ball weights, which is of simple construction, automatic in operation, inexpensive to manufacture and enjoyable to watch.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of the kicking man toy embodying the features of the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary and sectional view, in elevation, of the toy and showing in detail the operating parts of the toy.
Referring now to the figures, I represents a base on which is mounted a man figure l I having a swinging leg i2 and a boy figure l3 having a swinging jaw l4. Within the man II are two passageways l5 and I6 through which travel ball weights ll serving to operate and cause the leg I 2 to be thrust outwardly as a ball I! is released from a lever I 8 in passageway l5 and dropped upon a top surface IS on the upper end of the leg !2 and removed from its pivotal connection 2| with the main part of the figure l I.
The ball release lever I8 is pivoted on the main part of the figure H and is operated by its connection as indicated at 22 with the leg 12, as the leg !2 is dropped to position the lever l 8 so that it will retain a plurality of the operating balls il in the passageway [5. The lever l8 has a shelf portion 23 which will receive a ball I! and retain it only for a sufiicient time to cause the lever to apply its shelf projection 24 below the several balls lying in the passageway l5 above the lever 18. The balls will be dropped one at a time and each time the leg !2 will be extended. As the leg is forced forwardly under the weight of the released ball, the ball will be dropped from the surface l9 into the lower part of the passageway I 6,
By inverting the toy the balls H can be returned to the passageway l5. A finger is kept over the upper end of the passageway l5 while inverting the toy to again position the balls in the passageway !5. If it is desired to remove the balls from the toy, the finger will be removed from the upper end of the passageway 15 so that they will leave the toy through the opening 25 in the head. Through the same opening 25 new ball elements 1 'I can be extended into the toy.
In the boy figure it, there is extended for vertical movement an operating rod 26 for moving the jaw M. This rod 26 extends down to the seat of the boy figure l3. As the lower end of the rod 26 is engaged by the leg 82 the jaw l4 will be pivoted upon its pivot connection 21 with the head of the boy so that it will be lowered. The two figures are connected together through an arm 28 extending from the man to the top of the boy and to his collar.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of this invention, what is claimed is:
A man kicking toy comprising a base, a man figure extending upwardly from the base, a first horizontal pivot disposed in said man figure, one leg of said man figure swingable forwardly upon said pivot, a boy figure extending upwardly from the base and connected at its upper portion to the man figure, a body part on the boy figure adapted to be operated by said one leg of the man figure as it is swung forwardly, a substantially vertically disposed channel forming a recess at its lower end in said man figure, and means associated with the man figure for causing the leg to be lifted for engagement with the parts of the boy figure to be operated, said means for lifting the leg comprising a plurality of balls disposed in said channel, each ball by its own weight causing the one leg to swing forwardly, means for releasing said balls individually comprising a second pivot disposed horizontally in said man figure, and a double armed lever turnable forwardly and rearwardly on said second pivot and disposed in said recess, the lower arm of said lever linked to said one leg and turning backwards in said recess upon swinging forwardly said one leg and the upper arm of said lever retaining the balls in said channel in its rearward position and releasing the lowermost of said balls in its forward position upon swinging forwardly said. one leg, and the swing- UNITED STATES PATENTS ing rearwardly of said one leg by its own weight Number Name Date repeating the turning of said double armed lever- 1 322 99 Murphy Nov. 1 1919 LUTHER YAGGY- 2,419,990 Dishmaker May 6, 1947 REFERENCES CITED 5 FOREIGN PATENTS The following references are of record in the Number Country Date file of this patent: 581,884 France Dec. 8, 1924
