sornewhat conform with `-the.side -edge.of therecess so that they frictionally engage therein and anchor the latch member to the necktie. The portions 38 and 39 may be formed in sinuous curves so as to promote contact with the form element 21 and they terminate in laterally extending parallel portions 48 and ti! carrying upwardly and outwardly diverging latch finger portions az and 43, the terminals of which are bent outwardiy and then downwardly to form substantially triangular shaped latch portions 44 and 45 to engage in the slot-like openings 25 of the keeper lugs 23 and 231 on the holder. The inwardly and downwardly sloping terminals are adapted to slide on the keeper lugs 23 and 24 at the lower ends of the slots 25 so that should the tie be caught in a machine or the like, the fingers 42 and 43 will be moved toward each other to release the latch element 3 from the holder i, thereby providing for safety of the workman of a machine or other device in which the tie may be caught.

In applying the invention constructed as described, the holder element I is slipped between the collar folds |8 and I9 and engaged over the collar button ll as shown in Fig. 1. The portions 36 and 31 of the latch element 3 are moved into the opening 34 of the form 27 which is contained within the knot 26 of the tie 2. Upward thrust of the latch ing portions 38 and 39 to spring together as they pass through the opening 34, after which they spring apart to engage the sides of the recess 3301 the form member. When the latch element is applied to the tie, the finger portions 42 and 43 thereof project upwardly in diverging relation With the rear of the knot 26 as shown in Fig. 4. The fingers may then be grasped between the finger and the thumb of a person to press the terminal ends thereof together and permit passage thereof between the keeper lugs 23 and 24 on the holder. When pressure is relieved the triangular- shaped terminals 44 and 45 snap into the slot-like openings 25 to secure the tie to the holder I. The upper side edges of the knot are then tucked under the collar wings !8 and !9, after which the collar Wings are drawn under the clamp flngers 20 and 2| as shown in Fig. 1. The tie is readily removed fromthe holder by applying the thumb and finger around the knot to press the spring fingers 42 and 43 of the latch element together, thereby withdrawing the triangular- shaped terminals 44 and 45 from the keeper lugs 23 and 24 of the holder. The tie is then free and may be withdrawn from the collar.

The holder is removed from the collar by slicling it oif of the -collar button I 'I of the shirt. When it is desired to wear a different tie, the tongue of the latch element provided by the portions, 35, 36-31 and 38-39 may be withdrawn from the recess 33 of the form and re-inserted in the form member of another tie to be used which may then be applied to the holder after the holder is attached to the collar.

While I have particularly illustrated and described a necktie simulating a four-in-hand tie, it is obvious that the invention may be carried out in the connection with a bow or other form of tie without departing from the spirit of the invention.

From the foregoing it is obvious that I have provided a necktie holder and tie adapted to be removably Secured to the holder by a rsilient latch member which 'is readily withdrawn 'in case the tie should become caught or placed under excessive strains but which is otherwise element causes the diverg secured in proper position when worn. It is also obvious that the latch may be readily manipulated and removed from one tie and applied to another tie when it is desired to change ties. It is also obvious that the invention as above described provides a tie which is readily applied by a child or person unable to form complicated knots.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. In a device of the character described. a necktie holder adapted for insertion under the fold of a collar and having laterally spaced latch engaging portions thereon, latch means separate from the holder and including a wire-like member providing a tongue and laterally spaced resilient latch fingers for engaging the latch engaging portions of the holder, a necktie having a socket for receiving the tongue, and clamps on the holder for engaging wings of said collar.

2. In a device of the character described, a necktie holder comprising an arcuate strip of sheet material adapted for insertion under a fold of a collar and having an opening adapted for engaging the attaching means for a button of a collar to anchor said-holder and having a notch intersecting said opening adapted to pass said attaching means into the opening, keeper ugs projecting from the convex side of the holder at the respective sides of the slot, and a separate latch member having a portion adapted for con-^ nection with a. necktie and having laterally spaced resilient latch fingers engageable with the keeper lugs of the holder.

3. In a device of the character described, a necktie holder comprising an arcuate strip of sheet material adapted for insertion under the fold af a collar and having a button engaging opening, loop members projecting from the convex side of the holder on the respective sides of the button engaging opening, and a separate latch member formed of wirelike material and having a tongue provided with laterally extending corrugatiors adapted to engage in a socket of a necktie and terminating in laterally diverging resilient flngers .provided with angularly shaped 'terminals for engaging in said loops.
