Description
Dec. 9, 1930. w. G.'RAU
NECKTIE HOLDER Filed April 4, 1929 INVENTOR l V/LL/AN G. RA u ATTOZNEY.
Patented Dec. 9, 1930 1 WILLIAM G. RAD, or LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY NECK'IIE HOLDER Application filed April 4,
My invention relates to attaching devices for neckties, and its object is toprovide a Very simple, inexpensive and easily applied means for holding the knot of the necktie,
5 which is the kind that is tied when the wearer is putting the tie on, and to hold this knot snugly up over the collar button, so that the tie not only does not become untied, but does not slip down, revealing the button.
I accomplish this object by the device illustrated, for example, in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a front perspective view of part of a collar and part of a necktie thereon, having my improved device applied thereto, the device, which lies behind the tie, being indicated by solid lines, as are also the button and the pin associated therewith; while the tie is shown by dotted lines;
Fig. 2 is a partial sectional vie w of the shirt front, its neck band, and the collar attached thereto, the necktie being in side elevation, and my device being shown in section on the button and pinned to the tie as in F ig. 1;
Fig. 8 is a front view of the device; and
Fig. 4 is a section on the plane of the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
The device as herein illustrated comprises a strip 1 of elastic material, such as sheet rubber or elastic webbing, preferably narrower in its middle 2 than in its end parts 3 and 4, both of the latter being perforated; The upper end part 3 has its perforation preferably in the form of a small button hole 5, and in the perforation of the lower end part 4 is an eyelet 6.
The necktie 7, which is of the four-inhand style, is tied in the usual manner anddrawn partly up into the collar 8. My device then is applied by buttoning the upper end part 8 onto the collar button 9, after which the tie 7 is drawn completely tight and up over the button 9, as usual. Then the free parts of the necktie 7 are lifted, and the device is stretched moderately and its lower end part 4 is held to the back of the tie 7 shortly below the knot thereof as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and a pin 10 is inserted up through the eyelet 6 of the part 4 and into the fabric of 1929. SerialNo. 352,433.
the back of the tie 7, pinning the lower end part ofthe device to the tiejust below the knot thereof and resulting in the elastic strip 1 pulling up constantly on the necktieand preventing i the downward" displacement thereof as before alluded to. The device thus accomplishes its object without being seen from the front; and, as here shown, the pin 10 also is entirely concealed;
However, it will be understood that the pin may be inserted to show its head at the front of the tie, and have an ornamental head, like the usual stick pin. In this case the pin may be longer, and my device may be longer, or
may be stretched farther, accordingly. But
it also will be understood that the device may be made shorter, so that the pin enters the back of the knot, fastening the knot against becoming untied.
The construction of the device itself may be varied as to material; for example, elastic cord may be formed with loops to servevas the end parts 3 and 4, or the lower part may have the pin or equivalentfastening means permanently attachedthereto, to be caught in the tie. Other modifications may occur without departing from the scope and spirit of my invention, which is defined in the following claims.
I claim:
1. In combination with a collar, fastening means for said collar, and a necktie in front PA E T. F ICE of said fastening means, an elastic tension element havlng one end part engaging said collar-fastening means and extending down behind said necktie, and a pin extending through a part of said necktie and then through the opposite end part of said tension element and then into a part of said necktie,
whereby said tension element holds said necktie up in front of said collar-fastening means.
2. In combination with a collar, a button for said collar, and a necktie in front of said button, a tension element having a buttonhole in one end part, receiving said button, and having an eyelet in its other end part, at least an intermediatepart of the length of said element being longitudinally yielding, and a pin extending through a rear part of said necktie and then through said eyelet and then into another rear part of said necktie, fastening said other end part of said element to said necktie whereby said element, by its engagement with said button, holds said necktie up in front of said button.
3. A necktie holder comprisinga flat strip of elastic material having its Opposite end parts wider than its intermediate part, whereby said intermediate part is adequately yielding and said wider endpartsiareofadequate strength to permit of firm fastening toa collar button and to a rear part of a necktie ton.
- 4:. A necktie holder comprising an elongated element having its opposite end parts wider than its intermediate part, and means whereby said opposite end parts are connected to a collar button and the rear part of a necktie, respectively, said intermediate part being elastic longitudinally.
WILLIAM RAU.
