This invention relates to retaining devices proper position to prevent wrinkling.

Other objects of the invention are to provide a retaining device which may be expeditiously installed in position, and? one which will not injure the clothing.

A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of the above described character which will be of simple and economical structure and manufacture.

Considerable difficulty is often experienced in retaining a shirt in proper position to prevent unsightly wrinkling thereof. This is especially true when a vest is worn where the tendency of the shirt to wrinkle and bulge out is very marked. I have, therefore, provided a device which will obviate this condition and which will act to maintain the shirt taut between the shoulders and the waistband. To accomplish this I have provided a device which may be connected to a button 6 on the shirt 7, the button 6 preferably being the one directly above'the waistband 8 of the trousers 9. My improved device includes a hook portion 10 which is intended to be arranged behind the button 6 4 and about the retaining means 11 therefor. In the present instance, this hook portion 10 extends upwardly from and is a unitary part of a band 12 which is adapted to embrace and fixedly retain the upper end of a 5 spring 13. The lower end of this. spring l3 is embraced and retained by a band 14 which is a part of the substantially T-shaped connecting member 15. tend in the direction of the hook portion 10 and which are also slightly inclined with respect to the face of the head portion 16, as best illustrated in Fig. 4. In use, the hook portion 10 is disposed about the retaining means '11 for the button 6 and the connecting member 15 is clasped, and the spring 13 is elongated to place it under tension. The piercing prongs 19 and 20 are then inserted into the inner face of the waistband 8 of the trousers 9. By reason of the tension exerted by the spring 13 the shirt will be held snugly about the shoulders and, therefore, undesired and unsightly wrinkling will be prevented. In addition to this, the cellar will be held down and prevented from climb- 6 ing which will obviously aid in attaining a neat appearance. The device will also aid in keeping the front of the trousers up and prevent sagging.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, it is to be understood that this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the purview of the invention as set forth in the following claims:

I claim:

1. A retaining device including a substantially T-shaped connecting member having prongs at the ends of the branches thereof extending'substantially parallel to and in spaced relation with the stem, a resilient member, ineansconn-ecting one end of said resilient member to the stemof said T-shaped connecting member, a hook, and means connecting said hook to the other end of said resilient member. y

A retaining device including a substantially T-shaped connecting member having an attaching band at the end of the stem portion thereof, piercing prongs at the ends of the branch-es of said T-shaped member extending substantially parallel to and in spaced relation with the stem, 2. spring having one endthereof connected to the stem of said T-shapedmember by said attaching band, and a hook having an attaching band thereon connected to the other end of said spring to connect said hook to said spring.

3. In a retaining device which has means for retaining the shirt taut about the shoulders of the wearer and for holding the shirt in the waistband of the trousers worn with the shirt, the combination of a hook engageable with a button on the shirt, a spring having one end thereof connected to said hook, and a substantiallyT-shaped connecting memher having the stem thereof connected to the other end of said spring and having piercing prongs thereon extending substantially parallel with and spaced from said stem and engageable with the waistband of the trousers when said spring is elongated to be placed under tension.
