WITNESSES INVENTOR y Q/ 'v f /l is ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHRISTOPHER O. BRAMOW, OF RACINE, W'ISCONSIN.
QUILTING-FRAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 257,283, dated May 2, 1882.
Application tiled August 23, 1881. (Model.)
To all whom tt may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTOPHER C. BRA- MOW, a citizen ot the United States, resident at Racine, in the county of Racine and State ot' Wisconsin, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in- Quilting-Frames; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation ot' the same, reference being` had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures ot' reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a cross-section ot' my invention, and Fig. 2 is a plan view.
This invention has relation to quiltingrames; and itconsists in the novel construction and arrangement of a corner-bracket comprising a double angular socket and a sleeve and binding-screws for the horizontal socket and sleeve andthe adjusting and winding rods, as will be hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the corner-bracket, which I employ to connect the rails, rods, and legs ot' my quilting-frame. The bracket consists of the vertical socket B and the horizontal socket C, having a set-screw, D. The sockets B and O are at right angles to each other, and a horizontal sleeve, E, having a set-screw, F, is secured at the junction of the sockets B and C at right angles thereto. The socket C and sleeve E are in the same horizontal plane. Four of these corner-brackets are used in connecting the legs Gr, winding-rails H, and adjusting rails I to form the quilting-frame. The legs G have their upper ends driven into the vertical socket B, and are there secured by a pin or otherwise. The winding-rails H have their rounded ends inserted in the horizontal sockets C, and are held in place by the setscrews D. v v
The adjusting-rails Iare rounded for about two-thirds of their length, the central portion being left square, preferably 5 but this form is not essentially necessary.
It will be seen that the winding-rails may be moved nearer to each other when it becomes necessary lby loosening the set-screws F and sliding the sleeves E inwardly upon the adjusting-rails I and then tightening the setscreWs F to hold the frame rmly.
This frame may be easily taken apart for storage or transportation, and is cheap, convenient, and durable.
Adjusting-rails iu a quilting-frame on which the windingrails may be advanced or receded, as necessity requires, are not new; neither are set-screws for securing the rails to their adjustments. I do not claim either broadly, but ask protection only for the construction hereinafter specifically claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a quilting-frame, the combination ot' the legs Gr, winding-rails H, and adjusting-rails I, with the corner-brackets A, composed of the sockets B and C, sleeve E, and set-screws D and F, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my naine in the presence ot two witnesses.
CHRISTOPHER O. BRAMOW.
