' 2 Claims This invention relates to a combination chalkboard molding strip and map display railhook' supporting member and is an improvement upon the map display rail and hook supporting mem her which is disclosed in Elmer W.'Christy Patent No. 1,930,965 granted October 17, 1933, on Display Railand Hook?- An object of thefpresent invention is to provide a new and improved combination chalkboard molding strip and map display rail hook supportmg member which may be used advantageously in conjunction with chalkboards in school rooms and like places, for retaining the upper edge portion of a chalkboard in position of use upon and against a vertical wall surface while, at the same time', providing a support for a map display rail hook, supporting member such as that which is disclosedfin the aforesaidPatent No. 1,930,965. I
Another object of the present invention is to provide a new and improved and relatively simple and inexpensive combination chalkboard molding strip and map display rail hook sup-' porting member having a unique "and pleasing design and appearance which are such that it may be 'used as a chalkboard molding strip, per se, as" and when desired, 'and'without modification or reconstruction, while; at the same time, being available for use as a map display railhook supporting member if it should be desired to use the new chalkboard molding strip for that additional purpose andfunction.

The new combination chalkboard molding strip and map display rail hook supporting memher also has asubstantially channel-shaped guideway 20 formed therein and extending lengthwise therethrough This guideway 20 is formed, in part, by a horizontally extending ledge 0r flange 2|, which. is arranged at the bottom thereof, and this horizontally extending ledge or flange 2| projects inwardly from a vertically extending wall 22 which projects downwardly from the body II at the front thereof, and 'forms the front wall of the substantially channel-shaped guideway 20. As shown in Fig; 3', the top of the guideway is formed by the body; M of the new combination chalkboard molding strip and map display rail hook supporting 'mem-' ber.
The channel-shaped guideway' 20 has an inlet opening or mouth 23, at the inner end thereof, for a purpose which will be described presently. A map display rail hook supporting member is generally indicated at 24 in the drawing and is of substantially the same construction as the map display rail hook supporting member-disclosed in the aforesaid Patent No.e1,930,965.,=and com- 24 has a. rightangularly extending upper end portion 3 0.
7 A substantially flat leaf spring member 21 is V mounted upon the face of the body 25 of the hook 24 and is suitably attached thereto between its ends as by means of a rivet 28. The upper end portion 29 of the flat leaf spring member 21 is normally bowed slightly outwardly'from the body of the hook 24, and this end portion 29 of the fiat leaf spring member 21 terminates slightly short of the angled end portion of the body 25 of the hook 24.
In the use of the new combination chalkboard V molding strip and map display rail hook supporting member lllthe same may be mounted in position of use, as shown, with the horizontallye'xtending edge I8 thereof disposed above and resting upon the top edge of a chalkboard l I and with the upwardly extending attaching flange I6 of the member if! attached to a vertical wall surface l3, as-by means of the screw l1, so as to retain the chalkboard H firmly thereagainst.-
' Whenso disposed, the new combination chalkboard molding strip and map display rail hook supporting member 10 not-only functions as a ohalkboardmolding strip, to -retain the upper edge portion'o'f the chalkboard H firmly against thevertical'wall surface I3, and in position of use thereon, but is also useful for supporting the map display rail hooks 24.
' The map display rail hooks 24 are adapted to support a display roll map 3| in position of'use upon the chalkboard H and to accomplish this result a pair of the map display rail hooks 24 inay be mounted in position of use in spaced relationship, as shown in Fig; 1. In order to inount the map display rail hooks 24 in position of use upon the new combination chalkboard molding stripand'map display rail hook supporting member It the hooks 24 are positioned at an; acute angle relative to the member l0 and chalkboard i'l, and the upper end portion 29 of the flat leaf spring 21 compressed slightly inwardly against the body 25 of the hook 24. The rightangularly extending upper edge portions -30 of the map display rail hooks '24 are thereupon inserted through the mouth or throat 23 into the.
channel-shaped guideway 28 whereupon the hooks '24 are manipulated relative to the substantially channel-shaped guidewayZi] and the body l4 of theoombination chalkboard molding strip and map display rail hook supporting member l0 until the rightangularly extending upper edge portion 39 rests upon the horizontally and inwardly extending ledge or shelf 2! of the member l0, and the body 25 of each hook 24extends substantially vertically and bears against the face of the chalkboard H, as shown in Fig. 3. When. so disposed the upper end portion 29 of each flat leaf spring member 21 bears against the inner edge of the ledge or shelf 21 and serves to keep the hooks 24 in proper position.
.Whenso disposed, the trunnions 32 of a roll display map 3| may be rested upon the hook portions 2:; of the hook 24, as shown in the drawing. i 4
In order to remove each hook 24 from the substantially channel-shaped guideway 20, it is merely necessary manually to press the upper and map display rail hook supporting member provides a novel dual purpose unit in that not only does it function to provide a chalkboard e molding strip for retaining the upper edge portion of the chalkboard ll firmly against the vertically extending wall surface l3, but it also serves as an efficient support for the map display rail hooks 24.
Moreover, the new combination chalkboard molding strip and map display rail hook supporting member may be used as a chalkboard molding strip, per se, independently of themap display rail hooks 24, and when so used provides an efiicient chalkboard'molding strip which is simple and efiicient in construction and has a novel and pleasing ornamental design and appearance.
' It will thus be seen from the foregoing description, considered in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, that the present invention provides a new and improved combination chalk-' board molding strip and map'display rail hook supporting member having the desirable advantages and characteristics, and accomplishing its intended objects, including those hereinbefore pointed out and others which are inherent in the invention.
I claim:
1. A combination chalkboard molding strip and map display rail hook supporting member comprising an elongated unitary bod having a horizontally extending portion adapted to be rested upon the upper edge portion of a ,ver-' tically extending chalkboard and having an at taching flange formed as an integral'part thereof and extending substantially vertically upwardly therefrom at the rear thereof for attaching the saidbody to a vertically extending wall surface atthe rear of the said chalkboard, the said body having a substantially vertically extending flangedepending therefrom at the front thereof and adapted to extend downwardly over the upper front face portion of the said chalkboard so as to retain the said chalkboard in position of use against the said unitary body having a substantiall channel-shaped guideway formed therein and extendinglengthwise therethrough, said sub-- stantially channel-shaped guideway having a closed top wall and a closed front wall and a.
bottom wall in the form of a flange extending horizontally rearwardly fromthe said front wall of said elongated unitary body to a point dis-- posed forwardly of the said depending flange of said unitary body, said unitary body havinga vertically extending throat at the bottom and rear of the said substantially channel-shaped guideway and between the inner rear end of the said horizontally extending flange and the adjacent front surface of said depending flange and through which said throat an angled upper.
