sHw-CASE.
t SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters :PatentV No. 255,686, dated'March 2,8, 1882.
Application filed January 13, 1882. (No model.)
' To all whom it 'may concern Beit known that we, GEORGE iN. SIMONS and JOHN F. SIMONs, citizens of the United States, residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain 4Improvemcntsin Show-Gases, of which the following is a specification.
Our in ventionconsists of a show-case, con structed in the peculiar manner l'ully described hereinafter, for the safekeeping 'ot' canes or umbrellas, and for the exhibition of the valuable heads and handles ot' the samewithout permitting them to be roughly used and deteriorated by frequent handling.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is an exterior view of our improved show-case for canes and umbrellas; Fig. 2, a vertical srction ofthe same; and Fig. 3, a sectional plan on the line 1 2, Fig. l.
The body A of the show-case, which may be made of wood, metal, or other appropriate -material, is preferably ot' cylindrical form, and is secured to a base, B, mounted on legs a, which are provided with casters, so that the case can be readily moved about in a store and deposited for the night in a safe place. The upper surface of the base is arranged in steps b b b2, and the perforated top D ofthe body is'in the present instance coneshaped, so that when a series of `canes have been passed through the openings in the top D the central cane will be the highest, those supported by the step b' lower, and so on, the handles of all thc canes being thus properly exposed to View above the top D. y
To'the upper edge, d, of the bodyof `the case is secured a glazed frame, G, which is preferably of the same form as the body, so as to be a continuation of the same. This glazed frame consists in the present instance of a ring, e,
and any appropriate number of vertical ribs j' and screw-rods L, one rod adjoining each rib and serving to bind the frame to the upper edge, d, ofthe body A, the glass being in the: present instance in theform of three segments,
vstore without fear of the purloining of one or more of the canes.
If desired, panes of glass may be tted to the body of the case. so that the stems of the canes may be inspected.
When the case is intended for the reception and exhibition of umbrellas the openings in the top or partition D should be somewhat larger in diameter than those shown in the drawings.
We claim as our inventionl l. The combination, in a show-case, of the body A, constructed for the reception of canes or umbrellas, withvthe glazed frame G, surmounting the same, and with a perforated par- Itition, D, all substantially as described.
2. The combination of the body A, having steps b b on its base, and a perforated conical top, D, with the glazed frame G, substantially as specified.
3. The combination of the body A, adapted for the reception of canes or umbrellas, with the glazed frame G, surmounting the body and having a glazed lid, H, as speeied.
4. The combination of the body A with the glazed frame comprising the ring e.,'ribsf,
