Description
I June 10, 19 47.
H. B. FOSTER I COTTON PICKERS SACK CARRIER Filed Dec 20, 1944 Patented June 10, 1 947 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE COTTON PICKERS SACK CARRIER Hebern B. Foster, Lubbock, Tex.
Application December 20, 1944, Serial No. 569,058
1 Claim. 1
The present invention relates to supports or carriers for cotton pickers sacks.
An important object of the invention is to provide a wheeled carrier upon which cotton pickers may rest sacks containing cotton, thus protecting the sacks against unnecessary wear by reason of ground friction when dragged from one point to another.
Another object of the invention is to provide a cotton pickers sack carrier which will materially reduce the effort on the part of the cotton picker in dragging cotton sacks from one point to another.
A further object of the invention is to provide a carrier of the character described which is considerably more practical and efiicient for use than conventional devices of this character.
Various other important objects and advantages f the invention shall become apparent to the reader of the following description.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 represents a side elevational view of the improved carrier with a cotton containing sack supported thereon.
Figure 2 is a bottom plan view of the carrier.
Figure 3 is a cross sectional view through the carrier.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 generally refers to the improved carrier, while reference character A denotes a conventional cotton pickers sack which consists of a sack proper B, open at its end C, and at which end a cotton pickers body encircling strap D is provided.
The sack B is provided at diametrically opposite side portions on the intermediate part thereof, with eyes 6, with which snap hooks I on the invented structure 5 engage to prevent slipping off of the sack from the carrier.
The carrier consists of a pan having a bottom 8 and outwardly inclined sidewalls 9, 9. It is preferable that the edge portion of the pan and sidewalls 9, 9 be flanged or reinforced in some other suitable manner.
Where the sidewalls 9, 9 merge with the pan 8 longitudinally extending depending flanges l0, it are provided and these flanges have bearings ll through which an axle I2 is journalled, this axle being provided at its ends with ground riding wheels l3.
At the forward and rearward ends of each of the flanges I0 is an arcuate shaped runner M, which may be welded or otherwise secured to the In the use of the carrier, it can be seen that the sack is disposed on the carrier in substantially the manner shown in Figure l, and the hooks l are engaged with the eyes 6 on said sack. The picker may then pull the sack along the field, disposing picked cotton into the sack and from time to time pushing the cotton back to a point in the sack over the carrier. Thus it will be seen that the sack, and principally the loaded portion, will at all times be off of the ground, and wear, which would be occasioned by contact of the bag with the ground as the bag is being drawn from one place to another, is eliminated.
When the bag or sack has been filled and it is desired to dump the same, the sack can be easily pulled to a damp pile where it can be unfastened from the carrier 5 and dumped.
It can be seen that the arcuate runners I4 prevent the digging into the ground of the end portions of the pan, thus providing an eflicient and smooth running carrier for the sack, regard- Number correspondingfiange end, these runners being forward or rearward.
less of to what extent the same has been filled.
While the foregoing description sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as extending inwardly of each end of each bar and meeting a medial portion of the corresponding bar, the inner ends of the runners of each bar terminating in spaced relation at opposite sides of the axle.
