Description

l. JACQUES SHOULDER PAD Feb. 2l, 1950 Filed Deo. 16, 1947 TTORMEKS Patented Feb. 21, 1950 UNITED STATES PATENT O FFICE SHOULDER PAD Innocenza S. Jacques, St. Louis, Mo.
Application December 16, 1947, Serial No. 791,954
1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to shoulder pads for blouses, dresses or the like.
An object of this invention is to provide a shoulder pad which is so constructed as to provide for substantially straight shoulder lines without effecting undue projection of the garment.
Another object of this invention is to provide a shoulder pad which is formed of complemen tary semi-teardrop cover members which in one form are adapted to be connected together so as to provide a substantially straight outer end and in another form are adapted to be connected together to provide a rounded outer end.
A further object of this invention is to provide a shoulder pad of this kind which can be readily mounted on and taken from the garment, the latter being provided with a pair oi loops with which the detachable fastening means carried by the pad are adapted to be connected.
With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the arrangement, combine tion and details of construction disclosed in the drawings and specication, and then more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 is a detailed front elevation of a pair of shoulder pads constructed according to an embodiment of this invention in applied position,
Figure 2 is an end elevation of one of the pads,
Figure 3 is a perspective view from below one of the pads,
Figure 4 is a top plan view of one of the pads,
Figure 5 is an exploded view showing the cover members in blank form for the pad,
Figure 6 is a perspective view showing the complementary pad members connected together to form a relatively wide pad, and
Figure 7 is a longitudinal section taken through the pad.
Referring to the drawings, and rst to Figure 5, the numerals I and I| designate a pair of outer or upper fabric cover members which are of substantially semi-teardrop conguration being formed on their inner edges on a long arc or curve as indicated at I2 and I3 respectively.
The opposite edges of the cover members ID and are each provided with notches I4 and I respectively, which denne the end of the stitching line indicated at I 6 and Il, the un stitched portion of the cover members Ic and II being the outer ends ,thereof and indicated by the numerals I8 and I9 respectively. The pad also includes a pair of inner or lower cover members and 2| which are of a configuration similar to the cover members I0 and |I and are formed on their outer edges with a long arc or curve 22 and 23 respectively.
The cover members 2|] and 2| are also notched as at 24 and 25 to indicate the end of stitching lines 26 and 21. The cover members I0 and |I, are adapted to be stitched together in one form of this invention along the long curved lines I2 and I3 and the cover members 20 and 2| are also adapted to be stitched together along their curve lines 22 and 23, the stitched lines forming the center of the pad.
The outer edges of the covers are then stitched together, there being a pair of binding tape strips 28 and 23 stitched to the outer or divergent edges of the completed cover. The completed cover is then filled with a padding 30 so as to provide the desired thickness of the pad.
The tape 28 at its outer end is formed with an extension 3| which is adapted to be looped back on itself to provide an attaching loop and the end of the extension 3| is secured by means of complementary snap fastening members 32 carried partly by the end of the tape extension 3| and the tape 28.
The tape 29 is formed at its outer end with an extension 33 which carries one element 34 of a snap fastening means and the other element 35 of the snap fastening means is secured to the outer end of the tape 29.
The inner end of the tape 29 is formed with an extension 36 carrying one element 3'I of a snap fastening means and the other element 38 is carried by the inner end of the tape 29.
The garment is adapted on the top of the shoulder to have a loop 33 secured thereto with which the extension 36 is adapted to be engaged and the garment is also adapted to have secured at the front and rear of the upper ends of each sleeve a pair of loops or eyes 40 with which the extensions 3| and 33 are adapted to be engaged. In this manner, the inner and outer portions of the pad will be detachably secured to the garment. Where it is desired to form a substantially straight line across the outer end of the shoulder, the cover members are lapped over each other to the extent indicated by the lines 4| and 42. Where the square shoulder effect is provided by the pad, the long curved edges of each cover member are outermost.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is;
A shoulder pad comprising an upper pair of substantially semi-teardrop shaped members secured together on the long arc thereof, a lower pair of semi-teardrop shaped members connected REFERENCES CITED together on the long arc thereof, a pair of tapes secured to and connecting the outer edges of fugg cllilswiaxferens are of record m the said upper and lower members together, a, padp ding within the cover, exible extensions carried 5 UNITED STATES PATENTS by said tape, and complementary fastening members carried by said tape adjacent the end of Number Name Date said members and said extensions at the ends 2,149,806 CalleO Mar. 7, 1939 thereof whereby said extensions may be reverted 2.422.161 Zacks June 10, 1947 to provide attaching loops for securing the pad 10 2,439,597 de Satnck Apr. 13. 1948 to a garment.
