Patented Dec. 13, 1949 COMBINATION CURTAIN ROD AND SHADE ROLLER BRACKET Harold R. Morton, Carmichaels, Pa. Application August 31, 1945, Serial No. 613,722
1 Claim.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in fixtures for attaching curtain rods and shade rollers to a window frame and more particularly to a combination bracket for the curtain rod and shade roller by means of which the curtain rod and shade roller may be secured in adjusted position on the window frame without necessitating the use of nails, screws or similar fastening devices which might mar the appearance of the window frame.
An important object of the present invention is to provide a combined curtain rod and shade roller .bracket of this character embodying adjustable means for the shade roller and by means of which rollers of various lengths may be secured in position on the bracket.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a bracket of this character for supporting a curtain rod, the curtain rod including telescoping section for adjusting the rod in accordance with variations in the width of the window frame and also providing spring means connecting the sections of the curtain rod to prevent spreading movement thereof.
A still further object is to provide a device of this character of simpl and practical construction, which is eilicient and reliable in operation, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which- Figure l is a front elevational view.
Figure 2 is a top plan view.
Figure 3 is an end elevational view.
Figure 4 is a sectional view of one end of the curtain rod and shade roller taken on a line 44 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is an enlarged perspective view of one of the shade brackets, and
Figure 6 is a fragmentary perspective view of one end of the curtain rod.
Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates one of the attaching brackets generally which includes a front L-shaped plate 6 and a rear L-shaped plate 1.
The front plate 6 includes a rearwardly projecting flange 8 at th outer end thereof positioned against one side of the forwardly pro- .iecting flange 9 of the rear plate I.
The flange 9 is formed with upper and lower horizontally extending slots ll] adapted for receiving bolts and wing nuts ll carried by the flange 8 for securing the front plate 6 in forwardly and rearwardly adjusted position relative to the rear plate I.
One of the brackets 5 is adapted for positioning at each side of a window frame :2, with the rear plates I inserted behind the frame, the brackets at the opposite sides of the window being connected by a coil spring I3 extending across the top of the window frame.
Each of the front plates 6 is formed with a horizontally extending slot I4 adapted for receiving a bolt and nut I5 inserted through a flange ll of an angular shade roller bracket [8 for attaching the bracket in horizontally adjusted position in the slot [4, the flange having a forwardly projecting arm [9 of a type adapted for supporting one end of a shade roller 26 thereon. The arms l9 of the respective brackets may thus be adjusted to accommodate rollers of various lengths.
The front of the plate 6 at its lower edge is formed with a horizontal trough or channel 2| slidably receiving the lower edge of the flange I! to prevent tilting of the bracket on the front plate 6.
The upper front surface of the plate 6 is formed with a pair of vertical sockets 22 in which are received the downturned ends of rods 23 secured in the flattened ends 24 of hollow telescoping curtain rods 25. The sections of the rods are secured to each other by coil springs 26 which also serve to draw the brackets against the opposite side edge of the window frame.
In View of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in the art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A combined curtain rod and shade roller fixture comprising a pair of adjustable plates, one plate being adapted for engagement behind a 4 window frame and the other plate being ad- REFERENCES CITED justable outwardly in front of the frame, a shade roller bracket adjustable horizontally on said g s fifi rfiferences are of record in the last named plate and including an angular flange, 5 pa en an edge trough on the last named plate slidably 5 UNITED STATES PATENTS receiving one edge of the flange to prevent tilting of the flange on the plate, and spring means gg 1 3 yieldably connecting a pair of the fixtures in 1082939 jg b 1913 clamping engagement at opposite edges of a 1374498 Gilbert 1921 window frame, sockets on the front surface of 10 Zwahlen 1922 said last named plate, adjustable curtain rods 1 584 285 Gugliuzzi l\4a 11 1926 including telescoping sections having down 2118714 Ross 1938 turned pins at their ends positioned in said sockets, and coil springs xielglaglx connecting; the sections of the curtain rods and also exert; ing their influence on the fixtures tonnaintain the latter in clamping position onthe frame.
