1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a cooking appliance, which is adapted to be used with cooking vessels to regulate the temperature applied to the vessel to prevent damage to the contents thereof.
An object of the invention is to provide a frame having removable sheets of asbestos mounted therein, which can be used with gas, coal or electric stoves or any other stoves using different heating mediums to prevent the scorching, burning or over-cooking of the contents of cooking vessels being heated on the stove.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists of the novel details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is an elevational view of an embodiment of the invention in use with a cooking vessel;
Figure 2 is a plan view of the device per se;
and
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Referring more in detail to the drawing, the reference numeral l designates a U-shaped or forked shape frame or container having a handle 12 thereon for the manipulation thereof. As shown, the handle is secured to the frame at the medial portion of the base thereof, but it may be secured at any desired point thereof.
The frame is made of a strip of channel shaped heat resistant material l4 bent in the manner shown, and which provides the upper flange l6 and lower flange I8, and provided intermediate these flanges, are a plurality of inwardly extending parallelly related and spaced intermediate supporting flanges 20, and these flanges are adapted to receive a plurality of removable sheets or cards of asbestos 22 in superimposed relation to each other.
During use of the device, it is placed over the burner on a stove 24 and a cooking vessel 26 is positioned on the uppermost sheet 22.
The number of sheets used is determined by the amount of temperature which it is desired to be applied to the vessel 26, and these sheets can be removed or replaced as desired.
There has thus been provided, a device which is used to bring the temperature to a simmering point to prevent scorching, burning or overcooking of the contents of the vessel. The number of sheets used is governed by the temperature desired, and the device is applicable for home or wholesale cooking.
It is believed that from the foregoing description, the operation and advantages of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art, and it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts may be resorted to, provided they fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
A device of the character described, comprising a U-shaped frame formed of a channelshaped strip of heat resistant material having an upper flange and a lower flange, a plurality of supports within said frame said supports comprising inwardly eXtending parallel and relatively spaced flanges formed integral with the inner face of the channel strip intermediate the upper and lower flanges thereof and removable sheets of asbestos mounted on said supports spaced from each other a distance equal to the thickness of said supports and retained in place on said supports by the flanges of said strip.
