y BAKING ran.
Application led July 16, 1927*#` SerialNo. 206,287,
My present invention has reference to a baking pad, that is, a pad upon which baking pans rest when in an oven to prevent the lower or bottom portion of the contents of the pan from being burned during the cooking operation, the pan being also susceptible for use over the grate above the pan tolikewise prevent the contents in the top of the pan from being burned or scorched.`
An object is the provision of a pad or mat for this purpose which may bev rolled, when not in use, to provide a small bundle for storage or for shipment and which is of a construction that will effectively perform its function when in use.
A further object is the provision of a pad or mat for this purpose in which sheets of heat resisting material, such as asbestos or the like are held in spaced relation by a reticulated member of corrugated formation, the pad being enclosed in a metal frame, and the end members of the frame being removable so that the pad, when the said end members are disassociated may be rolled upon itself, the end members arranged in the rolland a finger ring, normally employed for manipulating` the pad may be arranged around the pad for holding the same when in rolled condition.
To the attainment of the foregoing the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings:
' Figure l is a top plan View of a baking panr in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2l is a sectional view on the line 2 2 of Figure l.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the lino 3 3 of Figure l.
Figure 4 is a detail view in perspective of a corner portion of the pad, with one of the frame elements withdrawn.
Figure 5 is a sectional View on the line 5 5 of Fig. 4;.
Figure 6 is a perspective view showing the pad in rolled condition. i
My improved baking pad includes spaced sheets l of heat resisting material, the sheets being constructed of asbestos or like material. Between these sheets l there is interposed a fine mesh wire 2 which is corrugated transversely throughout its length. The bulged portions of the wire hold the sheets l suitably spaced away from each other and.
Thelmat thus provided is enclosed ina metal frame. The metal Vframe includes side and end members, each of a single strip of bendable metal, two of the interposed strips be-` ing bent into U-shaped formation and being clamped and if necessary crimped or indented along the sides and edges of the sheets. The members'are indicated `by the numeral 3 and each of the said members, at or adjacent to their ends have sockets or depressions 4. The other and removable members of the frame are indicated by the numeral 5. The membersl 5, adjacent to their ends are indented from their outer faces to provide inwardly projected cross sectionally rounded teats or lugs 6 to be received in the rounded depressions 4;. In this manner it will be seen that the elements constituting the frame for the pad may be readily associated or disconnected.
One of the frame members has associated therewith an eye 7 which is preferably piv otally or swingably secured on the said meme ber, and this eye receivesl therethrough a `split ring 8. The ring'is, of course, removable from the eye, it being merely necessary to bend the ends of the ring to insert the same in the eye or to remove the said ring therefrom. Normally the ring serves as a finger hole whereby the mat may be inserted in an oven or removed therefrom but when the frame members 5 are removed and the `mat is folded, as disclosed by Figure 6V of the drawings, the ring member is iirstldisassociated rom the eye and thereafter arranged around the roll. If desired, the ring member may be passed through the eye 7 when themat is'folded. When in folded condition the removable frame members 5 are inserted in the center of the roll as disclosed by said Figure 6 of the drawings.
The construction and advantages ofthe improvement will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention relates without further detailed description. Having described the invention, I claim.: l. A baking pad as herein described comprising two sheets of heat resisting material, a corrugated sheet of mesh interposed between the sheets, a framemember connecting the ends and edges of the pad, and said posed sections which are fixed to the pad and other sections which are removably secured to the pad and have aunterengagement with the fixed members. l
2. A baking pad as herein described, comprising two Vlapping sheets ofheat resisting material, a corrugated mesh arranged between the sheets and spacing the same, a.
5 frame surrounding the pad, said frame comprising U-shaped metal members two of the opposite elements of which are compressed against the pad and having depressions adicent to their outer ends, the remaining -shaped elements of the frame having in- 10 wardly directed teats to be received in the depressions of the fixed member of the frame and a split swivel ring removably secured to one of the frame members.V
In testimony whereof I aix my signature.
