M. HOLLEN PIN CURL FINGER COMB Filed Sept. 10, 1945 INVENTOQ MANUEL HOLLEN Kfl-Man ol-w I ATTORNEY Patented Apr. 19, 1949 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE PIN CURL FINGER COMB Manuel Hollen, Dayton, Ohio Application September 10, 1945, Serial No. 615,459
2 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in pin curl finger combs and has for its object to provide a small comb which has a limited number of long teeth and a larger number of small teeth with facilities for supporting a comb on the third finger of the hand.
It is also an object of this invention to provide a comb having long teeth and shorter teeth with means for supporting the comb on a finger.
These and other advantages will appear from the following description taken in connection with the drawings in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of one form of the finger comb.
Figure 2 is an end view showing the teeth of the comb and the loop for holding the comb on the finger.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the comb.
Figure 4 is a section on line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of another form of finger comb.
Figure 6 is an end view of the comb shown in Figure 5.
Figure '7 is a top plan view of the modification shown in Figure 5.
Figure 8 is a section on line 8-8 of Figure 7.
In the form of comb shown in Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4 the comb as a whole is fiat having a back I to which a loop 2 is attached by means of a rivet 3. The clip or loop 2 may be made of metal or any other suitable resilient material.
On the body of the comb as shown in Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4 there is a plurality of long teeth 4 and a larger number of progressively shorter teeth 5. In the form shown in the drawing there are two long teeth 4 and five short teeth 5. The long teeth are used for separating a small batch of hair from the other part of the hair, while the teeth 5 are used for combing and straightening it out.
In the form shown in Figures 5, 6, 7 and 8, the comb is made of one piece of suitable plastic material. In this form the comb has a body part 6 and a pair of loop members 'I forming a pocket in which the finger is inserted. Integral with the body 6 is a pair of relatively long teeth 8. Adjacent these long teeth is a plurality of shorter teeth 9.
Operation In the operation of the pin curl finger comb, the long teeth pick up a block of hair and comb through it in one operation, then the third finger with the comb attached is tucked into 2 the palm of the hand thereby leaving the thumb and first and second fingers of the hand free to wrap the pin curl and pin it down. The use of the pin curl finger comb eliminates a regular hand comb in the pin curl wrapping operation; therefore, it is not necessary to pick up a regular hand comb, block and comb the hair, and put the comb aside while each curl is wrapped. The finger comb is designed for picking up a uniform block of hair each time for each curl.
It is possible to use a regular hand comb for waving or parting the hair without detaching the finger comb by merely tucking the third finger of the hand with the finger comb attached into the palm of the hand.
The wrapping of pin curls is greatly speeded up and simplified by the pin curl finger comb which picks up the hair with the long teeth, and combs through it with the smaller teeth in one operation, and remains on the finger while the operator wraps the curl and with the remaining free fingers pins it down. This operation is repeated until all the desired pin curls are made.
What I claim is:
1. In a finger comb, a body having thereon a row of teeth, the teeth at one end of the row being substantially longer than the others, and a holding member for supporting the comb on the finger.
'2. In a finger comb, a back having thereon a pair of cooperating relatively long teeth and a larger number of shorter teeth adjacent to and at one side of the long teeth and means to hold the back on a finger of an operator so that the teeth will extend in a line away from the end of the finger.
